Director of Human Resources

Job Description

Director of Human Resources

About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead our HR function and serve as a trusted partner to the faculty and staff who make this work possible. This is a meaningful opportunity for an experienced HR leader who is energized by building. Reporting to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, you will shape the systems, policies, and practices that support every employee at the School. You will modernize how HR operates, bring clarity and consistency to our policies, partner with leaders across the School to support both faculty and staff, and establish HR as a responsive, credible, and approachable resource across our community. If you are both strategic and hands-on—and you take pride in creating order, fairness, and trust—this role offers real scope to make a lasting difference.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding for staff (non-faculty) positions, championing inclusive and equitable practices.
  • Build and maintain clear HR systems, records, policies, and job classifications.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and payroll, keeping the School competitive and compliant.
  • Partner with managers on employee relations, performance, and professional growth.
  • Oversee compliance, workplace safety, required training, and risk management.
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and care consistent with our Quaker values.

What We’re Looking For

  • Ten years of progressively responsible HR generalist experience, including at least five years supervising others; school or nonprofit experience is a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred.
  • A track record of building or improving HR systems and earning the confidence of colleagues.
  • Excellent communication, sound judgment, discretion, and strong technology and data skills.
  • A genuine appreciation for our mission and Quaker values.

Compensation
