Engineer I-III (OMS Analyst)

$82,463 - $140,187 yearly

Job Description

POSTING DEADLINE

This position is posted until filled.

DEPARTMENT

Department: DOC Engineering

PREFERENCES

About DOC Engineering
PNM¿s Distribution Operation Center (DOC) Engineering team supports the operational systems used to monitor and control the electric distribution system, manage outages, and improve operational reliability. DOC Engineers work closely with Distribution Operations, field personnel, technology teams, and system vendors to configure, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve these systems.
This position will support the phased deployment of PNM¿s new Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), along with ongoing operational system support. Responsibilities will evolve throughout the deployment, from configuration, data validation, and testing to commissioning, production support, and implementation of additional capabilities. Later releases will introduce advanced applications such as integrated volt/VAR management (IVVM), fault location, isolation, and service restoration (FLISR), distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS), and wildfire-related operational functions. DOC Engineering will have a continuing role in validating system performance, supporting operators, and expanding the use of these capabilities.
The position will be filled at the Engineer I, II, or III level based on the selected candidate¿s qualifications and experience. Assignments, independence, and technical responsibility will be appropriate to the engineering level. The initial assignment will emphasize the functional area described below, with cross-training and opportunities to support other SCADA, OMS, and ADMS functions as team needs evolve. Training, mentoring, and hands-on participation in deployment will develop familiarity with PNM¿s systems, configurations, and operational practices. In addition to day-to-day system support, these positions will emphasize proactive engineering, using operational data and system analysis to identify improvement opportunities, recommend changes, and evaluate results.
Position focus
This position focuses on the Outage Management System (OMS) within PNM¿s ADMS. The engineer will work with other DOC Engineers, Distribution Operations, Schneider Electric, and other technical teams to support the applications, data, workflows, and interfaces used to detect, predict, track, and support restoration of electric distribution outages.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Configure and maintain OMS application settings, outage-processing rules, workflows, code lists, and operator views.
  • Validate outage detection, prediction, and restoration processing against expected operational behavior.
  • Investigate data and interface issues involving the distribution network model, Geographic Information System (GIS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Customer Information System (CIS), and field mobility systems.
  • Develop and execute functional, integration, acceptance, and regression tests; document results and coordinate defect resolution.
  • Distinguish application-configuration issues from source-data, network-model, interface, and software defects.
  • Support cutover, production troubleshooting, controlled configuration changes, software updates, and technical documentation.
This role will involve deploying, evaluating, and improving additional OMS and related ADMS capabilities, including switching management, field crew coordination, storm response, and wildfire-related operational functions. The engineer will analyze outage records, restoration timelines, network-model and interface data, and operator feedback to identify recurring problems and opportunities to improve outage prediction, restoration support, data quality, and operational workflows. The role will also support validation of how advanced applications, including FLISR, interact with outage processing and restoration workflows as their deployment expands. These responsibilities will combine ongoing production support with proactive analysis, configuration improvements, and evaluation of operational results.
Relevant experience
Electric-utility OMS experience is required. This should include hands-on experience with OMS configuration, testing, troubleshooting, or application support, along with an understanding of distribution outage-management processes.
Experience with Schneider Electric¿s EcoStruxure ADMS, particularly its OMS functionality, is preferred but not required. Experience with other electric-utility OMS platforms is also relevant. Additional desirable experience includes distribution network connectivity, GIS and AMI integrations, customer-system interfaces, field crew workflows, databases, SQL, and data analysis tools.
