Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

Schedule: M-F, weekends as needed

Salary based on experience and qualifications

*Position Summary*

The Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and performing routine maintenance of vehicles, tractors, semis and equipment to ensure peak performance, safety and longevity of equipment.

*Essential Position Duties*

· Diagnose, inspect, recondition, repair, assemble, and service equipment as assigned by the Diesel Shop Manager

· Perform in-field/on road machinery diagnostics and repairs as required

· Perform routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts

· Disassemble and reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments as necessary

· Record details of repairs made, and parts used

· Document machine information and repairs completed on work order, including parts and fluids used

· Maintain a clean work area, as well as care for all shop tools, machines, and equipment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety

· Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals

· Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards

*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*

· Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement

· Strong mechanical aptitude

· Excellent communication skills

· Strong attention to detail

· Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.

· Possess organizational and time management skills

· Ability to work independently on a variety of equipment in a fast-paced environment

· Excellent trouble-shooting skills

· Ability to utilize technology to troubleshoot and repair equipment

*Education*

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Associates degree

*Experience*

· 2+ years mechanical experience

*Essential Physical Requirements*

* Ability to lift at least 100 lbs frequently
* Ability to climb in and around vehicles and/or machinery
* Frequently sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch
* Frequently push, pull, bend, and reach

(Occasionally: 1-25% of the time; frequently: 26-75% of the time; constantly: 76-100% of the time)
