Texas Biomed is searching for an exceptional postdoctoral scientist to study the consequences of genetic variation in pedigreed primate populations. The position will be based in the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) Colony Management Unit, which supports and advises the SNPRC on its nonhuman primate (NHP) genomics resources and research activities.
Over the last 55 years, Texas Biomed has developed several large, pedigreed NHP colonies, including baboons, rhesus macaques, and marmosets. Animals within these pedigrees have been extensively characterized at both the genetic and phenotypic levels. The successful applicant will work closely with a team of investigators to conduct population and statistical genetic analyses, support the genetic characterization of NHP colonies, and develop breeding strategies to maintain genetic diversity.
THE ROLE:
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Required: A doctoral degree and demonstrated experience working with next-generation sequencing data, including genomic, transcriptomic, or epigenetic data, as well as statistical or population genetic analysis.
Preferred: Experience with non-human primate genetics and genomics is highly desirable. Candidates with a strong bioinformatics background and proficiency in scientific programming languages such as R, Python, or C++ are especially encouraged to apply.
Additional Opportunity: Highly qualified candidates may be considered for a Staff Scientist position.
