Design Consultant

The Design Consultant delivers an exceptional in‑store experience by welcoming customers, understanding their needs, and guiding them through product options. This role blends customer service, product expertise, and visual presentation to support sales and strengthen brand loyalty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience by greeting visitors, assessing needs, and guiding them through product selection, design options, and material choices.
- Provide expert knowledge of tile, natural stone, and other products, including features, pricing, availability, and alternatives to meet customer needs.
- Build strong relationships through professional, respectful communication with customers, team members, contractors, and management to ensure a seamless process from selection to installation.
- Drive sales by preparing quotes, presenting solutions, closing sales, and following up on customer inquiries.
- Process orders and manage customer information using order entry, POS, CRM, and scheduling systems, including tracking inventory, delivery timelines, and backorders.
- Collaborate with outside sales representatives and sales managers by sharing customer selections, providing support, and coordinating project details.
- Maintain current knowledge of inventory, product specifications, and industry trends through ongoing training and research.
- Ensure showroom standards are consistently met by maintaining clean, organized, and visually appealing displays, sample areas, and workspaces; assist with resets and updates as needed.
- Manage showroom materials, literature, and sample inventory, including receiving shipments and maintaining stock levels.
- Uphold company standards by demonstrating professionalism, a positive attitude, strong organization, and adherence to safety policies.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with company policy and applicable ADA/FMLA requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of interior and exterior design, including ceramic/porcelain tile, natural stone, and other products.
- Proven sales ability with a result-driven, customer-focused mindset and the ability to meet sales and production goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage a wide range of customers (homeowners, builders, architects, designers) and collaborate across departments.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong problem-solving skills and consistent follow-through.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to quickly learn products, systems, processes, and company procedures.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, sales‑driven environment.
- Professional demeanor and appearance, with a positive, customer-service-oriented approach at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience in retail, hospitality, or customer‑facing roles.
- Residential or commercial interior design experience preferred.
- Basic proficiency with POS systems and CRM tools.
- Proficient in Windows-based applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Basic math skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally sit for extended periods of time.
- Frequently lift up to 25-30 pounds.
- Bend, crouch, push, and pull as required to stock and organize the samples department.
- Use a ladder to reshelve samples.
MENTAL DEMANDS
- Apply analytical thinking to assess customer needs, product options, and project details.
- Make sound decisions in a customer-facing sales environment.
- Identify options, solve problems, and implement effective solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, sales representatives, and management.
- Maintain strong attention to detail when preparing quotes, processing orders, and managing customer information.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with customers and internal partners.
- Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Work with a sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
