Are you a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced shop environment and knows natural gas compression inside and out? Cooper Machinery Services is looking for an Operations Supervisor to run our contract compression make-ready shop — the hub that gets Ajax, CAT/Gemini, and CAT/Ariel compression skids ready for the field.
This is more than a shop management role — it's a leadership position where your decisions directly impact customer uptime, field deadlines, and company revenue. You'll build the team, set the culture, manage the budget, and own the customer relationship from order intake to delivery. If you're ready to put your compression expertise and leadership skills to work for a company with 190+ years of OEM heritage, we want to hear from you.
What you will do:
- Lead daily shop operations for a contract compression make-ready facility, overseeing mechanics and machinists who work on Ajax, CAT/Gemini, and CAT/Ariel compression skids.
- Own end-to-end customer order management — quality, schedule, cost, risk mitigation, and issue resolution — keeping clients informed every step of the way.
- Drive revenue, profitability, utilization, and budget targets; maintain the annual shop budget and manage expenditures with a business mindset.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate shop personnel; delegate and monitor work activities to ensure safe, efficient facility operation.
- Establish and sustain a safety-first, positive work environment — communicating safe work practices daily and ensuring full EHS compliance.
- Develop and implement shop procedures and systems that keep operations running smoothly and equipment maintained properly.
- Partner with the sales team to build effective plans that meet client field deadlines, and interface with customers to provide proactive updates and solutions.
Who you are:
- You have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited trade school or college — OR a high school diploma/GED with at least 7 years of hands-on experience in a shop support or field role in the compression industry.
- You bring a minimum of 3 years in a management role and 2–5 years in General Operations, Machine Shop Management, or Operations Management.
- You are a natural communicator and mentor — capable of influencing others, leading small teams, and working hands-on with equipment to train shop personnel.
- You are results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency; you set aggressive targets and do what it takes to meet them.
- You are an effective problem-solver who can identify root causes and implement solutions quickly, even when managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- You are customer-focused, dependable, and bring a business mindset to every decision — from shop floor to budget line.
- Experience specifically in the compression industry (Ajax, CAT/Gemini, or CAT/Ariel platforms strongly preferred).
Preferred:
- Six Sigma certification or demonstrated experience driving process improvement initiatives.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding shop financial metrics, including revenue and utilization targets.
