Location/Department:  Outpatient Center - Oncology / Pharmacy

Full-Time 80/pp M-F (will go between Main Campus & Oncology Center)

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician assists a licensed Pharmacist in distribution, charging, procurement, and record keeping of medications dispensed at Margaret Mary Health.
Sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications under supervision of the pharmacist will be key role of the Pharmacy Technician in the Oncology setting.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Delivering filled orders, inputting supply orders & charges.
  • Filling automated dispensing machines accurately.
  • Filling departmental orders.
  • Resolving missing doses with investigation.
  • Printing new label, obtaining pharmaicst approval & delivering final product.
  • Delivering filled orders of all types to the correct location.
  • Answering phone correctly as pharmacy tech as required by the State of Indiana.
  • Taking complete messages including phone numbers & name of caller.
  • Teaching and communicating with students.
  • Answering questions within Tech scope & knowing when to refer on to the pharmacist
  • Communicating ideas or ways of improving safety, accuracy, efficiency.
  • Transmitting orders to wholesaler or companies.
  • Checking items received, applying price stickers, checking off item on invoice.
  • Resolving backorder issues with wholesalers.
  • Preparing the drug invoices for payment & assigning account numbers.
  • Filing the invoices accurately.
  • Sorting & preparing for return outdated drugs.
  • Preparing for, taking, & entering the annual inventory.
  • Restocking the shelves & drawers.
  • Stocking Omnicell.
  • Sterile and non-sterile compounding & other duties as assigned.
  • Maintaining/cleaning IV areas.
  • Replacing stock items used by units.
  • Checking & resupplying the stock located in the medication dispensing unit daily.
  • Reviewing narcotic stock with pharmacist using CSM.
  • Checking narcotic proof of use for accuracy, cosigned wastage & co-signatures if required.
  • Returning incorrect sheets for correction & confirming their return to pharmacy.
  • Entering corrections, recharges & credits when needed.
  • Completing the State required mandatory monthly inspections of all drug storage areas.
  • Reviewing, correcting & filing of the daily drug disposition logs & cart fill documents.
  • Helping to maintain the high level of departmental dispensing accuracy.
  • Maintaining an active Pharmacy Technician license.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.
  • Uses respect & dignity when dealing with death and dying.
  • May require work at both main hospital and Cancer Center.

 

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills & team player.
  • Effectively communicates both verbal & written.
  • Able to multi-task & prioritize.
  • Able to operate basic office equipment & hospital applications.
  • Able to operate Laminar flow hood or newer models, Omnicell or Documed device, other new equipment as purchased.
