The Clifton Public Library (Passaic County) has an opening for a part-time Librarian. This position reports to the supervisor of the Reference Department of its Main Memorial Library. Primary duty will be in the Main Library but may include occasional shifts in the Allwood Branch as well as in the Children’s Department when coverage or extra help is needed.
We are looking for a service-oriented professional with excellent communication skills and competency in the use and instruction of technology to join our team. You will be providing outstanding reference, reader’s advisory and computer assistance to a diverse public. Bi-lingual skills are a plus. We will embark on strategic planning in the near future that will include addressing the need for outreach and expanded offerings to the ELL (English Language Learners) and workforce communities. We are also working to expand access to our Local History collection, so interest in local history and archival work is a plus.
The City of Clifton is civil service and this position is for the title of Librarian 1. A Masters in Library and Information Studies or equivalent degree and a New Jersey Professional Librarian Certificate is required. The library is also in a union. Part-time positions include paid sick, personal and vacation hours. The salary starts at $31.86 an hour, commensurate with experience. Under the “New Jersey First Act,” new hires must reside in New Jersey within 1 year of starting. Start date dependent on results of background check.
The schedule totals 24 hours over a two-week rotation. Our primary needs currently include coverage of a schedule that alternates every other week as follows:
Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 6:00 – 9:00 pm (= 9 hrs)
Week 2 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 6:00 – 9:00 pm; Saturday 10:00 – 5:00pm (= 15 hrs)
Additionally, an extra shift at a higher payrate on a separate schedule (if required, no more than one Sunday per season) is available on Sundays at the Allwood Branch seasonally, October – mid-December and mid-January – May.
The Clifton Public Library includes the Main Memorial Library and the Allwood Branch. It serves a city population of over 90,000 and is a member of the PALS Plus automation consortium.
