Summary - basic function of the role Engineer Techs are an integral part of the team supporting the manufacture of key Enerpac and Simplex products. Program and operate CNC equipment safely, timely, and efficiently while utilizing CAD/CAM technology to support production requirements. Prepare cost estimates by reviewing labor, material, and time requirements, blueprints, specifications, and other related documents. Identify areas of improvement within the operation and continue to increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
Shift: Monday - Friday; 6 - 3:30 pm or 7:00am - 3:30 pm, Saturdays when production needs exist.
Job Duties and Responsibilities - Programming, Writing/Editing, setup, and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers in accordance with the manufacturing method/process sheets.
- Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Applies knowledge of composition and machinability of materials with knowledge of machines, tooling and capabilities to help develop standardized processes.
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills and lathes.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Using current design standards and processes, develops component part drawings from form, fit and function assembly drawings. Applies knowledge of composition and machinability of ferrous and non-ferrous materials with knowledge of machines, tooling and capabilities to develop standardized processes
- Performs cost-estimating functions as needed on new or pending orders. Operate AutoCAD and/or Pro E equipment to design and develop tooling and fixtures.
- Advise engineers of design discrepancies and manufacturing process limitations of CNC equipment and makes recommendations to improve part function or manufacturability to run product in most cost-efficient manner.
- Assists engineers with establishment of accurate labor standards for CNC equipment to establish accurate costs.
- Identifies and qualifies outside vendors supplying raw materials, subcontract machining and other processes. Negotiates contracts with vendors and follows up on services to insure quality and timely delivery. Investigates and approves outside vendors for tooling and fixtures as needed.
- Works closely with the Focused Factory team to continuously improve and standardize current processes; develops and implements improved processes and incorporates into designs. Investigates and troubleshoots process problems as they occur and takes necessary corrective actions. Confers with Engineering to assure designs fit the best manufacturing processes. Request engineering changes to reduce costs, improve quality or decrease manufacturing times. Coordinates implementation of approved changes.
- Confer with other manufacturing engineers to share knowledge and corrective actions to enhance/improve overall company quality and profitability.
- Provides support in developing training programs/sessions of other machinists.
- Identifies equipment needs and further investigates and prepares capital equipment justifications.
Skills and Competencies - Proficient in the use of 2D computer aided design.
- Working knowledge of 3D computer aided design (Pro/E or Inventor preferred).
- Working knowledge of Oracle ERP system products preferred (Routings, BOMS, and outside processing).
- Ability to read and understand engineering blue prints.
- Strong Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) skills
- Knowledge of speeds and feeds for machining all types of metals
- Able to use micrometers, electronic gauges, calipers, and similar tools
- Knowledge of metric conversion - ability to work in metric and English units
- Proficient with MS office applications, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, Project and Power Point.
- Continuous Improvement background and Expertise in methods and tools.

Education and Experience Education Requirements : Associate Degree in drafting, design, manufacturing technology, or equivalent; technical diploma/certificate . We would expect the person holding this position to further their education to become a Manufacturing Engineer by education while gaining the practical experience in this role.
Experience Requirements : 3-5 years of experience in CNC manufacturing processes and process improvement within a Lean environment accepted. Fluent demonstrated CNC programming skills on lathes and machining centers is expected.

Physical Demands Employee will lift 1-30 pounds intermittently and may have to lift documents/work materials up to 40 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk to a variety of primary work locations. Employee will need manual (hand) dexterity to assemble/repair small parts for long periods of time. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
Work Environment Employee will be in a manufacturing environment where they may work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to vibration. Employee will be exposed to elevated levels of noise on the plant floor.
