Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Animal Technician Intern for a 10–12 week summer program. This role provides hands-on experience Office of the Dean for Research, Research Animal Program. The internship will include aspects of animal husbandry and clinical veterinary medicine. You will work closely with Husbandry and Veterinary technicians to support the health and welfare of diverse species at Princeton University.

This is a temporary position offering up to $20 per hour, depending on experience.



Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Animal Husbandry: Work with Animal Care Technicians to assist with the performance of daily care tasks, including feeding, watering, and sanitizing cages according to strict facility standards.
  • Health Monitoring: Shadow with Veterinary Technical Staff to assist with daily facility rounds to assess animal behavior and health, and provision of appropriate treatments under the direction of veterinary staff.
  • Research & Documentation: Maintain precise records of animal health and research data, ensuring all documentation complies with protocol and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Education: Current enrollment in college level Animal Science or Biology degree program.
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in various laboratory environments.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, commitment to ethical animal welfare, and excellent communication skills.
  • Availability: Commitment to the full duration of the summer term (typically June–August).
