Engineer, Quality - Customer (Athens, Alabama)

Job Description

The Customer Quality Engineer supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Quality Management System in compliance with IATF 16949 and Customer-Specific Requirements (CSRs). This role is execution-focused, working closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to ensure audit readiness, product safety compliance, and effective corrective action execution in an automotive manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the IATF 16949 Quality Management System aligned with CSRs
  • Prepare documentation, evidence, and records required for IATF and audits
  • Participate in internal audits, process audits, and layered process audits (LPA)
  • Track and support closure of audit findings, customer issues, and corrective actions
  • Support document control and change management processes
  • Assist with preparation of Management Review data and quality KPIs
  • Support deployment of Customer-Specific Requirements into procedures and processes
  • Support PFMEA and Control Plan alignment with requirements
  • Assist in managing escalation, containment, and documentation related to issues
  • Support APQP / PPAP documentation and evidence tracking
  • Product Safety & Risk Management
  • Support identification and control of product safety characteristics
  • Assist with PFMEA updates, risk prioritization, and action tracking
  • Ensure Control Plans and work instructions reflect approved changes
  • Audit & Compliance Support
  • Support IATF certification, surveillance, and recertification audits
  • Assist with preparation for customer audits and assessments
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of audit responses
  • Training & Team Support
  • Support training on IATF 16949 and CSR requirements
  • Coach operators and engineers on procedure compliance
  • Promote an audit-ready, prevention-focused quality culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality, or related discipline
  • 2–5 years of automotive quality systems experience
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and CSRs
  • Internal Auditor training preferred
