This position is for a System Chief Engineer for Electric Power Products. The expectations for this position include responsibility for technical oversight and support of military and commercial Electric Power products that are developed and produced at Aerospace sites including Torrance CA and Tempe AZ. These products include Engine Start Controllers, Generator Controls, Power Distribution products and integration of Generators into a system as well as Motor Controllers to support Control Systems.

This role will work with the broader Honeywell Engineering Organization, including the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC); Customer and Product Support (C&PS), Product Integrity, and Quality. Frequent engagement with customers, regulatory agencies and suppliers is expected to ensure Honeywell is compliant with applicable requirements and regulations to successfully achieve world-class performance for Electric Power Products.

This position is part of a powerful, innovative, and agile team consistent with elements of the Chief Engineers Transformation launched in 2019 and the Chief Engineers Leadership Model. A key element of the position is to provide balanced technical leadership and guidance across the entire product lifecycle This includes support of developing Product Strategy, Proposal Activity, NPI, Development Programs, Production Programs, field related issues and quality escapes. The Chief Engineer for Electric Power will help shape short and long-term strategies to create future vision and maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The position also requires talent development through formal and informal training, including lunch and learn group training, KCaT, and the Associate Chief Engineer Program. The Chief Engineer is expected to use these training tools to leverage all resources and talent to develop engineering technical strength and competencies and a pipeline of potential successors.


Responsibilities
Major job responsibilities include:

Leadership
  • Be a change leader
  • Strong technical leadership skills with demonstrated ability to influence and obtain consensus with stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface and influence executive level leadership in matters related to Electric Power
  • Guide effective deployment of improvement ideas. Champion improvements with project teams, identify and remove roadblocks
  • Share learnings and best practices with project teams and other Chief Engineers
  • Design Authority (final accountability) for Electric Power products
  • Functions as a partner with the Offering Manager as the Chief Engineer and CTO for the Electric Power business.
  • Drives MOS to utilize Chief Engineer/PAC Scorecard. Chief leads and collaborates with PAC members to identify and implement improvements and opportunities for growth. Chief ensures regular updates to scorecard ratings and improvement plans
  • Serves as an active member of the Product Action Committee (PAC):
  • Functions as a technical spokesperson with suppliers, customers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Lead and advocate value-added process changes and improvements. Share lessons learned across business and projects.
  • Participate in knowledge management and transfer including development of succession plan candidates.
  • Provide training and mentoring to build capability and effectiveness of the broader Electric Power engineering team.
  • Approve of processes/tools used in product design, analysis, and test.
  • Lead engineering & technology intellectual property plan for Electric Power products.
  • Experience leading Design Reviews
  • Experience dealing with Honeywell customers and suppliers for commercial and defense products and services
  • Experience working with personnel at other Honeywell sites foreign and domestic
  • Experience with Honeywell internal processes (IPDS, IRB, SARB, MRB, DREA)

Product Strategy
  • Drive concept development and ideation for Break Through Initiatives (BTI).
  • Promote and influence NPD Transformation for Speed
  • Identify the most impactful, transformational improvement ideas
  • Influence product development maturity and growth using criteria of the New Product Reinvention Scorecard. Ensure recurring and service revenue opportunities are identified and implemented. Connected, intelligent, and autonomous product architectures are identified and implemented. Opportunities to leverage data extracted from in-service products are identified and implemented.
  • Reviews and analyzes Voice of the Customer (VOC) and Competitive Intelligence (CI) data to drive technical strategies and product plans.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Advanced Technology in defining technologies and products to address customer needs, competitive challenges, or disruptors.
  • Ensures the strategies of the technology and Product Roadmaps are synchronized engine and systems growth plans across the entire product life cycle.
  • Supports development of product design requirements, qualification, and certification strategies, including review and approval of required documentation (FAA, EASA, Mil-Qual, etc.)

Pursuit Strategy
  • Guides, reviews, and approves technical concepts.
  • Provide leadership for trade study activities to identify optimum solutions for Honeywell’s Electric Power product line.
  • Ensures compliance with customer and business requirements including alignment with the technical strategy.
  • Reviews and approves the program plan, SOW and ensures scope is well-defined and complete
  • Reviews and approves the Quote Estimate (QE) and technical Basis of Estimate (BOE) for proposals, including reuse applications.

Program Execution
  • Participates in program management reviews and engages with suppliers and customers to drive action plans and closure on critical issues.
  • Accountable for success of development programs with responsibility and authority to drive actions needed to ensure success.
  • Ensures critical technical, business and program issues have effective risk mitigation plans.
  • Participates in and approves project phase gate exit reviews for new development programs.
  • Ensures appropriate plans are in place to meet key requirements, including Rolled Throughput Yield (RTY), Design-To Cost (DTC) and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications and/or regulatory authority requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight/approval of internal and external design reviews and ensure appropriate level of design reviews are conducted (TCR, PDR, CDR, etc.)
  • New Product Development (NPD) - Guide effective deployment of improvement ideas. Champion improvements with project teams, identify and remove roadblocks
  • Transformation for Speed – Ensure the most impactful, transformational speed and cost improvement ideas are being deployed on key projects.

Life-Cycle Ownership
  • Experience in leading teams in successful Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations of field and production issues.
  • Responsible for resolution of critical and systemic in-service and delivery issues and serves as a member of the Safety Review Board (SRB) with authority to drive necessary actions and issues to closure.
  • Conduct safety assessments and closure of Product Condition Reports (PCRs) and safety issues in conjunction with Product Integrity.

People Development
  • Use of Associate Chief Engineer
  • Mentoring potential successors and non-successors through formal, informal and OJT
  • Provide training and mentoring to enhance team capability
  • Succession Plan in Place - Top and ready now candidates identified
  • Identify Opportunities for group training & knowledge transfer (TEAMS, KCaT, Lunch & Learn, etc.)
  • Define knowledge capture needs, process, and lessons learned
  • Create and maintain an archive of relevant training materials

Qualifications
US CITIZEN REQUIREMENT

  • Must be a US Citizen due to contractual requirements.

  • Must have or be eligible for a security clearance due to contractual requirements

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 10 years-experience in design and support of power electronics and associated controls systems, requirements development, design, product development, testing, qualification, validation and verification, technology validation for new product introduction and field issue resolution of Electric Power systems.

PAY AND BENEFITS

The annual base salary range for this position in the state of California is . Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. This position is incentive plan eligible.
