Description:
Manages the archival programs for the College, including the acquisition, maintenance, control, and preservation of historical records and memorabilia.
1. Provides historical information to all members of the college faculty and to the public when appropriate.
2. Prepares and/or coordinates the display of archive and industry memorabilia.
3. Promotes the traditions of the industry, in appropriate public relations activities by the publication of articles and books.
4. Reports archival activities via operational plans, reports, budgets, and other related documents as necessary.
5. Develops and executes direct communication with industry leaders regarding historical information or artifacts.
6. Determines the method of and provides for the protection and preservation of the entire archival collection.
7. Negotiates, accepts, and declines all historical information and items referred to the archivist and maintains records.
8. Plans and implements procedures to locate and/or inventory historical records and items in the College, and if appropriate, materials in the public domain.
9. Attends and participates in archival, historical, and related professional meetings as necessary to improve archive historical services/operations and to increase public awareness of the College.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

THIS POSITION IS FOR A 12-MONTH TERM.
University of Houston Libraries seeks a Special Projects Processing Archivist, with knowledge and experience in practices of arrangement and description of archives and manuscripts, to process high-priority recent acquisitions. The Archivist will perform processing of records in diverse formats as part of the UH Libraries Special Collections department, which holds primary source collections of distinction that support teaching, learning, research, and scholarship on campus and for a global research audience.
Department work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
Duties Specific to This Position:
- Arranging and describing archival materials in the Bering Memorial United Methodist Church records, following national and international standards and best practices
- Authoring finding aid inventories for publication in the Libraries' ArchivesSpace collections management system.
- Executing processing plans for collection materials and performing re-housing of materials in archival quality boxes and folders in accordance with preservation procedures for archives and library materials.
- Following the processing of the Bering records, this position may process other recent acquisitions in our Performing and Visual Arts collections.
Required Qualifications Specific to This Position:
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution
MQ: Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
