Sr Neuroscience Research Scientist (Full Time, Days)

Job Summary

Responsible for health outcomes research design, data collection and analysis including use of clinical data, questionnaires, and individual/group interviews. Works closely with the research and clinical teams in the planning and conducting of original research, supporting a variety of other research projects and hospital initiatives, preparing reports and scientific publications, and presenting at local and national meetings.

Job Specific Duties

  • Conducts studies with clinicians, caregivers, and children at multiple medical centers. Collaborates with study teams and conducts multi-site research.
  • Assists study team in developing outcomes measures (e.g., item writing, cognitive interviewing, statistical analysis) .
  • Prepares presentations and writes scientific publications.
  • Creates and maintains data collection forms in RedCap as needed.
  • Assists with coding of qualitative data and data entry of questionnaires.
  • Manages, cleans, organizes, and conducts analysis of large datasets using a variety of methods.
  • Prepares and designs reports, tables, charts, and graphs with written summaries, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Interfaces with internal and external study teams to support best practices in data collection, management, and security.
  • Strengthens collaborations with internal and external researchers, with the goal of publishing original articles for the organization.
  • Assists with preparing research protocols, consent forms, and other study documents .
  • Contributes to identifying potential new funding sources, grant writing, and grant reporting.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Ph.D in Neuroscience
  • 4-7 years of work experience in health outcomes or social science measure development and mixed methods research (qualitative and quantitative); (OR) post-doctoral experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of measurement principles, including familiarity with psychometric concepts such as measurement error, validity, reliability, and item response theory
  • Experience selecting appropriate methods and conducting statistical analyses with healthcare or social science data sets
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research design, including mixed methods design in the social sciences
  • Experience creating or refining survey instruments and other measurement tools
  • Demonstrated record of publication (as both first author and collaborator) in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations in academic or medical conferences
  • Experience with statistical software (SPSS, SAS, or R)
  • Experience with, or ability to learn, qualitative analysis software (NVivo or similar)
  • Experience creating and managing questionnaires, data collecion forms and databases (REDCap or similar)
  • Ability to learn new programs and processes easily in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to enter, code, and clean data
  • Ability to survey public databases for research purposes
  • Experience conducting scientific literature reviews
  • Ability to identify and solve a range of problems within area of expertise
  • Familiarity with IRB regulatory requirements and processes
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
