Director IT Program Management

Job Description

As a Director IT Project Management here at Honeywell, you'll set the strategic direction and ensure the successful delivery of our technology projects. Collaborating closely with senior executives and cross-functional teams, you'll align IT project strategies with our business objectives, driving innovation. You’ll manage planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring our projects meet quality, budget, and timeline expectations. If you're a visionary leader with a passion for guiding technology initiatives and building high-performing teams, this role offers a platform to leave your mark on the technology industry.

You'll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.

In this role, you will drive the strategic direction of our technology initiatives, ensuring they align seamlessly with our business objectives. By overseeing a team of skilled IT project managers, you'll be instrumental in delivering successful technology projects on time and within budget, and setting new standards for excellence. Join us, and together, we'll redefine the boundaries of technology at one of the globe's premier industrial technology companies.

At Honeywell, our people leaders play a critical role in developing and supporting our employees to help them perform at their best and drive change across the company. Help to build a strong, diverse team by recruiting talent, identifying, and developing successors, driving retention and engagement, and fostering an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities
What You’ll Own
  • Portfolio Delivery – Drive on-time, on-budget execution of 15-20 concurrent IT projects across Lead-to-Cash, Order-to-Fulfillment, ERP, infrastructure, and integration workstreams. Own the portfolio health dashboard and escalation cadence.
  • AI-Native PMO Design – Stand up an operating model where AI tools (Copilots, LLM-based status generation, predictive risk scoring, automated resource leveling) are embedded in daily PM workflows—not bolted on as an afterthought.
  • Governance & Methodology – Establish a pragmatic, right-sized delivery framework that blends Agile, hybrid, and waterfall approaches based on project type—not dogma. Implement stage-gate reviews, intake prioritization, and capacity planning that executives actually trust.
  • Team Development – Recruit, coach, and upskill a team of PMs who are comfortable with AI-assisted planning, natural-language querying of project data, and low-code/no-code automation. Build a culture of continuous experimentation.
  • Execution Focus – Serve as the delivery backbone for Honeywell Aerospace’s IT projects, coordinating cross-functional dependencies across IT, Finance, Legal, HR, and Supply Chain with zero tolerance for surprises.
  • Stakeholder Partnership – Operate as a trusted partner to functional VPs and business leaders. Translate technical complexity into business impact. Ensure IT project outcomes tie directly to the Annual Operating Plan.

What Sets You Apart
  • You’ve already started using AI (ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, or similar) to draft project plans, summarize status reports, generate risk assessments, or automate PM artifacts—and you can show us the results.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries with compliance-sensitive delivery requirements.
  • PMP, PgMP, or SAFe certifications—valued but not required if your track record speaks louder.
  • Experience standing up a PMO from scratch or transforming a legacy PMO into a modern, metrics-driven function.
  • Familiarity with Management Operating Systems (MOS), OKRs, or portfolio-level KPI frameworks.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • 10 years in IT project/program management, with at least 4 years leading a PMO or large PM team in a Fortune 500 or complex enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage portfolios of $100M across concurrent transformation programs (ERP, cloud migration, M&A integration, or business separations).
  • Hands-on fluency with modern PM tooling: Jira, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, ServiceNow PPM, or equivalent—plus genuine curiosity (or early experience) with AI-powered project management tools and LLM copilots.
  • Strong command of hybrid delivery methodologies (Agile, SAFe, Waterfall) with the judgment to apply the right approach to the right problem.
  • Experience managing globally distributed teams, particularly India-based delivery organizations, with a track record of building high-trust, high-accountability relationships across time zones.
  • Executive communication skills that translate project status and risk into language a sector president or CFO cares about—not PM jargon.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and pace. You’ve operated in environments where the org chart is still forming, priorities shift, and the answer isn’t always in the playbook.

WE VALUE
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as PMP, ScrumMaster, or similar.
  • Demonstrated success in driving digital transformation and strategic IT initiatives.
  • Strong project portfolio management skills.
  • A passion for staying current with emerging industry trends and best practices.
