Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
| Essential Functions | - Performs routine and non-routine assignments and experiments of moderate to high complexity such as: in vitro assays with virus in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories, in vivo tick transmission and acquisition of virus in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories, care and maintenance of animals infested with ticks, maintenance of laboratory tick colonies, and training members of the laboratory (e.g., students and junior research technologists) on these applications, etc.
- Aids in general laboratory maintenance (e.g., autoclaving, dishwashing, reagent preparation, stocking consumables, equipment maintenance, chemical inventory, etc.)
- Contributes to research program and fosters a collaborative environment working within a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory.
- Records data in an organized fashion and maintains an up-to-date laboratory notebook.
- Interprets data, designs experiments, and follows protocols.
- Utilizes various laboratory equipment to include Thermocycler and qPCR, electrophoresis chamber, centrifuge, TissueLyzer/Bead Beater, C02 incubator, biosafety cabinet, light microscope, ChemiDoc gel documentation system.
- Orders supplies and ensures maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Trains lower level staff and students.
- Reports and interprets data.
- Orders supplies and equipment and maintains inventory.
- Maintains laboratory in an orderly manner.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
- Related duties as required.
