The University of South Alabama’s Central Housing department is seeking to hire two Environmental Services Supervisors. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions
  • Provides day-to-day on-site supervision of custodial staff in Housing, including assigning duties and work areas and adjusting schedules as needed.
  • Provides training and coaching to new and existing employees on proper methods, safety procedures, and equipment use aligned with university and industry standards.
  • Conducts regular inspections to monitor the quality and effectiveness of custodial services.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including managing attendance records, supply inventory, and work orders.
  • Informs supervisor of employee performance issues and conflicts and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Participates in hiring and onboarding of new team members.
  • Participates actively in custodial cleaning duties alongside staff.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of residence halls, offices, and common areas, including hallways, lounges, stairwells, elevators, laundry rooms, and study spaces.
  • Clean and service student living spaces, including residence hall rooms, suites, and apartments, in accordance with established housing turnover sanitation standards.
  • Maintains restroom and bathroom facilities by cleaning and disinfecting toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, floors, mirrors, partitions, and fixtures; restocking soap, paper products, and other supplies; removing trash and sanitary waste.
  • Performs routine and deep-cleaning tasks, including floor care (sweeping, mopping, scrubbing), carpet cleaning, window washing, wall and surface cleaning, and removal of stains, odors, and buildup.
  • Cleans exterior and semi-exterior areas, including building entrances, breezeways, stairwells, patios, and walkways, using hand tools and powered equipment, including brooms, blowers, scrubbers, and fogging equipment.
  • Safely operates and maintains custodial equipment and supplies, including vacuums, floor machines, carts, cleaning solutions, and disinfectants in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Prepares rooms and common areas for occupancy during move-ins, move-outs, summer conference, and semester transitions by performing full cleanings, resetting furniture, and ensuring spaces are ready for student use.
  • Reports maintenance, safety, and facility concerns such as broken fixtures, leaks, damaged furniture, lighting issues, or hazards to the appropriate Housing Facilities staff member.
  • Provides customer-focused service by interacting courteously and professionally with residents, guests, and staff; answering basic questions, offering directions, and referring issues to appropriate Housing staff.
  • Maintains custodial storage areas and inventory by organizing equipment and notifying supervisors when supplies need replenishment.
  • Operates a university vehicle or gold cart to travel between buildings, transport equipment, or support campus operations as needed.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required, especially during peak move-in and move-out periods.
  • Related duties as required.
