Summary:

Senior Counsel, Employment Law is responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on a wide range of employment law matters. Ensures that the organization complies with all relevant employment laws and regulations to minimize legal risks and maintain a positive work environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel to HR and managers on a wide range of employment-related matters, including hiring, discipline, performance management, accommodations, leave issues, terminations, separations, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour.

  • Manage and oversee employment-related administrative, state, and federal litigation, including strategy development, case management, coordination with outside counsel, and reporting to leadership.

  • Partner with HR and other internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks and promote best practices in employment law compliance.

  • Stay up-to-date with, advise on and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, NLRA, PAGA, and ADEA, to ensure the organization's policies and practices comply.

  • Develop and review employment policies, procedures, and handbooks to ensure legal compliance and alignment with best practices.

  • Conduct or support training sessions for HR and management teams to educate on employment laws, policies, and practices to mitigate legal risks.

  • Review employment contracts, agreements, and severance packages to ensure compliance with relevant laws and protect the organization's interests.

  • Conduct or oversee sensitive internal investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, or other employment-related issues in a timely and thorough manner.

  • Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive advice and solutions to prevent legal issues before they arise.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is an individual contributor with no direct reports but may provide guidance, leadership, or training to others.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice to non-lawyers.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Must be a collaborative team player.

  • Must be a proven self-starter.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active Bar membership in at least one state.

  • Minimum 7 years of legal experience, to include employment law, in a law firm, in-house or government agency.

  • Legal experience in employment law, including the full spectrum of litigation experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Experience in the financial services/mortgage industry a plus but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Actively licensed to practice law in at least one state.

Problems and issues faced are numerous and , and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem, as well as experience in the financial/mortgage (or job-specific) industry. Problems typically impact multiple departments or specialties. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues.

The estimated base pay for this role is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The estimated base pay for this position is the annualized equivalent of $143,000.00 - $168,000.00, depending on experience, qualifications, market location, and other job-related factors. In addition, this role is eligible for commissions based on performance and productivity against commission plan parameters.
