The Intramural Sports Coordinator supports Athletics leadership by coordinating the planning, delivery, and day-to-day operations of Villanova’s intramural sports program across all Villanova campuses, including Cabrini. The Coordinator fosters a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for students to participate in leagues, tournaments, and one-day events while supporting the coordination and development of a large student workforce. This position works closely with professional staff and more than 75 student employees to enhance program quality, diversify sport offerings, and deliver a positive experience for over 3,600 participants annually. | Duties and Responsibilities: | Program Operations & Risk Management • Coordinate the planning, scheduling, and administration of intramural leagues, tournaments, and one-day events across all Villanova campuses, including Cabrini. • Facilitate sport-specific captain and staff meetings. • Ensure fair application of intramural rules and policies while delivering excellent customer service. • Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of intramural policies and procedures. • Maintain inventory of intramural equipment and ensure equipment readiness and safety. • Perform monthly AED maintenance checks and support emergency preparedness. • Report facility, custodial, and safety issues to appropriate personnel. • Maintain participation records, operations manuals, rules, and end-of-year reports. • Support fiscally responsible operations. Student Workforce Coordination • Coordinate the hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and ongoing support of 75–100 student employees across all Villanova campuses, including Cabrini. • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and performance feedback to student staff during intramural leagues, tournaments, and special events. • Develop and facilitate student employee training programs focused on emergency response, customer service, sport rules, and University and departmental policies. • Support leadership development for student Supervisors and Commissioners. • Oversee student payroll coordination and ensure accurate timekeeping. • Track certifications, permissions, role changes, and employment status for intramural student employees. Community Engagement • Support outreach, communication, and engagement initiatives to promote participation in intramural sports. • Assist with engagement efforts designed to enhance the intramural experience and increase involvement across all Villanova campuses, including Cabrini. Other • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned. |
| Minimum Qualifications: | Formal Education • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field. • Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED, or ability to obtain within a specified period after hire. Work Experience • 0–2 years of experience in organized sports, intramural, recreation, athletics, or a related field. • Relevant student employment, internships, or graduate assistantships in intramural sports, campus recreation, or athletics may be counted toward experience. • Experience working in a student-facing, participant-facing, or event-based recreation or sports environment. Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills) • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple activities in a fast-paced, event-driven environment. • Ability to work effectively with student staff, participants, and campus partners. Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area) • Basic understanding of risk management and safety practices in recreational or intramural sports. • Familiarity with the basic rules of a variety of sports. Equipment Knowledge Equipment Knowledge • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar computer applications. Other: • Evening, weekend, and early-morning hours are required to support intramural leagues, tournaments, and special events. |
| Preferred Qualifications: | Formal Education • Master’s degree in a related field. Work Experience • Experience coordinating or supporting intramural, club, or recreational sport leagues or tournaments. • Experience scheduling, training, or supporting student employees, officials, or similar part-time staff. • Experience working in multi-site or high-volume recreation or athletics programs. • Experience supporting risk management, safety protocols, or emergency response in a recreation or athletics environment. • Experience with intramural or sports equipment, including scoreboards, goals, and timing systems. • Previous officiating, refereeing, or competitive sports leadership experience. Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area) • Working knowledge of intramural sport rules and officiating standards. • Familiarity with recreation management systems (e.g., DSE, Fusion, Sub It Up). Other • Engagement with NIRSA or similar professional organizations. |
| Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: | Working Conditions/Environment: (conditions, if known, which may impact the incumbent working in this position) a.) Tools, machinery and equipment used: • Sporting and recreation equipment such as balls, nets, goals, scoreboards, timing systems, and game-day supplies. b.) Environmental conditions: (any unusual/adverse conditions such as exposure to chemicals, noise, illumination, air quality, weather exposure etc.). • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor recreation and athletic facilities, including gyms, courts, fields, and event spaces. • May include exposure to noise, crowds, varying lighting, and weather conditions during games and events. Physical requirements: (items such as lifting, pushing, pulling, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, manual dexterity, walking etc.) • Requires the ability to walk, stand, lift up to approximately 45 pounds, and move equipment throughout recreation facilities, perform game-day and facility checks, and use standard office and event-related equipment. |

| Salary Posting Information: | This position falls within salaried grade 12 and the range for this position is $47,500-56,900. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity. |
