The University of Pittsburgh Department of Pharmaceutical Science is looking for a research technician to perform cell-based assays and compound screening for multiple drug discovery projects. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with medium throughput screening platforms. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, be able to work on a team, and be comfortable with working with deadlines.
A Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, biology or a related field is required.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions
• Perform transient transfections
• Perform calcium influx imaging assays for compound screening and mechanism of action studies
• Analyze and interpret data, prepare figures, maintain rigorous records
• Perform immunostaining
• Work closely with the PI and senior lab members
• Assist as needed with laboratory operations
• Strong organization, communication and planning skills are required.
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
