Veterinarian

$130,000 - $180,000 yearly

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian who wants to combine shelter medicine, preventive care and community veterinary services in a mission-driven environment.

We are reimagining our veterinary clinic with an emphasis on wellness and preventive medicine rather than a traditional high-volume sick-patient practice. The veterinarian will have an important voice in helping us develop and grow the clinic while providing exceptional care to our shelter animals and the families who have adopted from Save-A-Pet.

Our planned clinic model includes:

  • Shelter medicine and surgical care for Save-A-Pet animals
  • Spay/Neuter services for our surrounding community
  • Wellness examinations
  • Vaccinations
  • Preventive testing and bloodwork
  • Microchipping
  • Senior wellness and geriatric care
  • TNR/community cat medicine
  • Wellness services for Save-A-Pet alumni
  • Canine and feline preventive-care clinics
  • Medical oversight and care for animals with special needs

We are intentionally creating a practice where the veterinarian can focus on quality medicine, meaningful relationships and prevention, rather than emergency medicine or a constant schedule of complicated sick visits.

Why Save-A-Pet?

This is more than a veterinary position—it is an opportunity to make a direct and lasting difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them.

You will work closely with a dedicated rescue team and have the opportunity to help shape the direction of our veterinary program. Our veterinarian will be an important part of developing a clinic that serves both the animals in our care and the community of families who have welcomed Save-A-Pet animals into their homes.

Schedule

We are seeking a veterinarian for 32–40 hours per week.

Our clinic operates Monday through Friday, with a flexible schedule to be determined with the successful candidate.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $130,000–$180,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Benefits include:

  • Four weeks paid vacation
  • PTO
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Professional licensing and continuing education support
  • Professional liability coverage
  • Health benefit options available; details to be discussed with the selected candidate
  • A rewarding, mission-driven work environment
  • The opportunity to help shape and grow Save-A-Pet's veterinary program

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and be licensed to practice in New York State
  • Have experience in companion-animal medicine; shelter medicine experience is a plus
  • Be comfortable with dogs and cats of varying ages, breeds and medical needs
  • Have strong preventive-care and client-communication skills
  • Be compassionate, collaborative and comfortable working in a nonprofit environment
  • Have an interest in shelter medicine, animal welfare and community veterinary care
  • Be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with the rescue team
  • Bring a positive, practical and compassionate approach to veterinary medicine

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who believes that every animal deserves excellent medical care and every family deserves compassionate veterinary care.
