Job Description 

The Maintenance Technician / Mechanic is responsible for the operation, inspection, 

maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building systems, equipment, and facility 

infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This position 

performs a broad range of preventive and corrective maintenance activities involving 

mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building systems.

The ideal candidate is a skilled, hands-on maintenance professional with strong technical 

knowledge, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to mission 

success in a secure government environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Facility Maintenance & Operations
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on building systems and equipment.

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues and implement 

timely corrective actions.

Maintain and repair pumps, motors, air handlers, exhaust systems, compressors, 

controls, and other facility equipment.

Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability 

and efficiency.

Respond to service calls, work orders, and emergency maintenance situations.

Conduct routine facility inspections and document deficiencies, corrective actions, 

and maintenance activities.

Mechanical & HVAC Systems

Operate, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration 
systems.

Troubleshoot HVAC controls, equipment malfunctions, and system performance 
issues.

Perform filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, and other preventive 
maintenance tasks.

Ensure compliance with EPA regulations regarding refrigerant handling and 
recovery.

Electrical & Plumbing Systems

Perform basic electrical maintenance and repairs, including lighting, receptacles, 
switches, motors, and controls.

Troubleshoot electrical equipment and identify operational deficiencies.

Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures, piping systems, valves, and related 
equipment.

Install replacement components and perform minor system modifications as 
required.

Safety & Compliance

Follow all facility safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Maintain compliance with OSHA, environmental, and site-specific safety standards.

Ensure work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and 
manufacturer recommendations.

Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete required reports and 
documentation.

Customer Service & Team Support

Provide professional support to facility occupants and stakeholders.

Coordinate maintenance activities with supervisors, contractors, and other trades 
personnel.

Support special projects, facility upgrades, and operational initiatives as assigned.

Participate in after-hours, weekend, and emergency response activities as required.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Active Public Trust Security Clearance 
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Technical training in building maintenance, HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or a related trade.
• EPA Section 608 Certification.
• Current training certifications applicable to assigned maintenance disciplines.
• Annual continuing education documentation related to maintenance, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or facility operations.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing maintenance and repair of commercial, industrial, or government facilities.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
• Proficiency using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and common maintenance hand and power tools.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Must be a US Citizen

Required Certifications 

• Ability to climb ladders, work from elevated platforms, and access confined spaces.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in varying environmental conditions for extended periods.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting federal government or Department of Defense facilities.
• Building automation systems (BAS) experience.
• Experience working in secure or mission-critical environments.
• Additional certifications related to facility operations, safety, or maintenance management.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude and technical skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
