What You’ll Do
As an Architect I, you’ll serve as a trusted licensed professional that is developing competencies in the management of projects and is capable of independently performing a variety of day-to-day assignments while supporting the people around you.
You’ll:
- Perform a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural designs for projects of moderate size and complexity
- Prepare reports, plans, schedules, and studies as assigned
- Perform analysis of design, planning and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts
- Review completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations
- Be responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client’s needs
- Provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of assigned projects
- Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs
- Carry out assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
- Provide guidance to less experienced architects

- Assist with reviewing and defining scope of work issues with Consultants and Contractors
- Work across disciplines and office locations to fully utilize firm experiential knowledge
- Represent the firm in all aspects of projects and assignments to prospective employees, clients, and the communities we serve
- Prepare reports and technical memorandums with oversight and supervision by the lead Architect
- Provides input to improving project delivery processes and standards

What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from accredited university
- 6+ Years of relevant experience post-graduation, preferred
- Certification as a licensed professional is required
- Advanced knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Where You’ll Work
This is primarily an office-based role, with opportunities to get out into the field and stay connected to the projects and people you’re serving. Our GMC Columbia office brings together a multi-generational team within a culture that values professional growth, high-quality design, and ownership of every project. As one of the most established offices in the Carolinas, our Columbia location offers a collaborative, experienced environment with convenient access to local restaurants, markets, and the scenic Congaree River.
Travel: Up to 20%, including project site visits, client meetings, professional development, and other project-related activities.
Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, construction environments, pollutants, chemicals, insects, and other site conditions. Appropriate protective clothing and equipment will be provided and required as appropriate.
The role also includes periods of desk and computer work, as well as occasional bending, twisting, crouching, and other physical movements. Employees may occasionally need to lift up to 25 pounds.
