Material Handler Job Duties
- Receiving and Unloading
- Unload incoming shipments from trucks or delivery vehicles.
- Verify shipments against purchase orders and delivery paperwork for accuracy.
- Material Movement and Storage
- Transport materials to designated storage areas using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment.
- Organize and store materials in an orderly manner to maximize space and accessibility.
- Order Picking and Packing
- Retrieve items from storage locations based on order requests.
- Pack items securely to ensure safe transport and prepare them for shipping.
- Inventory Management
- Conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or overstock to supervisors.
- Documentation and Tracking
- Record material movements in warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Maintain accurate logs of incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Quality Control
- Inspect materials for damage or defects upon receipt and during handling.
- Report damaged goods to supervisors for further action.
- Equipment Operation
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyor belts, and other material-handling equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure functionality.
- Shipping and Staging
- Assist in preparing materials for shipment by labeling and staging them in loading areas.
- Coordinate with shipping teams to ensure accurate and timely dispatch of orders.
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any safety concerns.
- Workplace Organization
- Maintain a clean and organized work area by disposing of waste and clearing obstructions.
- Assist in keeping aisles, storage racks, and staging areas orderly.
- Collaboration
- Communicate with warehouse team members to coordinate material handling tasks.
- Work closely with supervisors to meet operational goals.
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform additional tasks as required , such as assisting in loading trucks or supporting other warehouse functions.
