Northwest Aquatic League (NWAL) | Houston, Texas (77064)
The Winchester Hurricanes Swim Team is seeking enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dependable coaches to join our summer swim program. We are looking to build a strong coaching staff and are open to candidates interested in Head Coach, Co-Head Coach, and Assistant Coach opportunities, with roles and responsibilities determined based on experience, strengths, and overall fit with our program.
This is a 10-week summer league season running from mid-April through the end of June, with some light preparation required prior to the start of practices for season planning, coach coordination, and team readiness.
The season includes regular practices, Time Trials, weekly NWAL dual meets, the Divisional Meet, and qualifying Mid & Post-Season Invitational Meets.
Our ideal coaches are passionate about teaching and developing swimmers, not simply winning races. We want coaches who can create a positive environment while helping athletes improve technically, gain confidence, set goals, and progress to the next level of swimming.
Our program serves swimmers ranging from beginners learning competitive swimming fundamentals to experienced athletes preparing for invitational, club, and high school competition.
Coaches should be able to contribute to:
Candidates interested in a Head or Co-Head coaching role should bring strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to help guide the overall direction of the program. Leadership coaches may assist with practice planning, swimmer progression, meet entries and lineups, mentoring assistant/junior coaches, and maintaining consistent coaching standards throughout the team.
We especially value coaches who can recognize the different needs of developing and experienced swimmers and help create a pathway for athletes who want to continue into year-round club swimming, high school swimming, and higher levels of competition.
Competitive swimming coaching experience is preferred, particularly experience with high school, club, or established summer league programs. Strong knowledge of competitive stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and race development is highly valued.
Candidates should be dependable, energetic, organized, professional, and comfortable working with children and teenagers. Familiarity with NWAL is a plus, but candidates who are willing and able to quickly learn league rules, procedures, and meet operations are encouraged to apply.
Current high school or club coaches, former competitive swimmers with coaching experience, and coaches holding nationally recognized certifications are encouraged to apply.
Compensation will be competitive and based on coaching experience, qualifications, availability, leadership responsibilities, and level of involvement with the program. Opportunities for additional performance-based compensation may also be available depending on the position.
The Winchester Hurricanes are more than a summer swim team. We are a community-based program focused on helping young athletes become better swimmers, stronger competitors, great teammates, and confident young people.
We are looking for coaches who want to make an impact during our short summer season while helping us continue to build a technically sound, competitive, positive, and respected program within NWAL.
