Director of Finance

Job Description

Director of Finance Woodland Presbyterian School, a coeducational, Christian independent school serving approximately 350 students in 2K through 8th grade, seeks a full-time, 12-month Director of Finance to join the Administrative Team.

The Director of Finance is a key member of Woodland's leadership team and provides strategic financial leadership for the school. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director works closely with the Board of Trustees Finance Committee to ensure the school's financial health, fiscal responsibility, and long-term sustainability.

The ideal candidate will begin training in early October 2026 and assume full-time responsibilities by October 19, 2026.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate exceptional integrity, discretion, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Have a minimum of ten years of professional accounting or financial management experience, preferably including leadership experience.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Possess excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Be proficient with QuickBooks, Excel, Google Workspace, and school information systems such as Blackbaud.
  • Have experience with or a strong understanding of 501(c)(3) nonprofit accounting and financial reporting.
  • Ideally have experience in an independent school, nonprofit, or other mission-driven organization.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality regarding employee, family, financial aid, tuition, and donor information.

The Director of Finance oversees the school's business office and is responsible for:

  • General accounting, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, bank reconciliations, purchasing, and monthly financial reporting to the Head of School and Finance Committee.
  • Developing and monitoring the annual budget in partnership with the Head of School and Finance Committee.
  • Providing financial analysis, forecasting, and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinating and working closely with the school's independent audit firm on the annual financial audit.
  • Overseeing payroll, employee benefits, and related financial records.
  • Overseeing the financial components of tuition management, collection, and financial aid.
  • Serving as a member of the Financial Aid Committee.
  • Working with the Director of Development to maintain accurate records for Annual Fund, capital campaign, and other charitable contributions.
  • Maintaining appropriate financial controls and ensuring compliance with school policies and applicable regulations.
  • Overseeing business office procedures, purchasing, vendor relationships, and financial processes.
  • Serving as a trusted financial advisor to the Head of School and working collaboratively with the Administrative Team and Board Finance Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
