Status: Independent Contractor (1099), Part-Time
Compensation: $4,000 annual stipend, with one Coordinator per region

Overview

The Super Speakers Program Coordinator oversees FDI’s elementary speech and debate program within one of Florida’s seven regions. Reporting to the Director of Educational Programs, the Coordinator recruits participants and volunteers and coordinates host sites and event logistics for four regional Super Speakers events between August and May. The position plays a key role in expanding access to elementary speech and debate while fostering the next generation of confident communicators.

Throughout the event season, work is performed remotely and on-site at event locations. Coordinators are expected to maintain regular communication with the Programs Team through phone, email, and Zoom meetings to support planning, problem-solving, and program implementation.

FDI engages one Coordinator in each region, for a total of seven, with each position receiving a $4,000 annual stipend. This is a part-time, mission-driven position well suited for an educator or community leader committed to youth development and civic education.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Growth & Support — Primary

• Recruitment: Assist with recruiting and onboarding elementary school participants—including schools, community groups, and individuals—into the Super Speakers program across the assigned region.
• Run & Assist Events: Run local Super Speakers events in the assigned region.
• Regional Point of Contact: Serve as the friendly local point of contact for elementary schools, teachers, community groups, and families.
• Promotion: Promote Super Speakers throughout the region and help grow participation.
• Reporting: Share regional updates, participation numbers, and success stories with the Director of Educational Programs.

Training & Collaboration

• FDI Training: Complete FDI orientation and use the curricula, materials, and best practices provided for elementary programming.
• Student Encouragement: Create a positive and encouraging environment in which young students build confidence and communication skills.
• Collaboration: Work with the Director, fellow Coordinators, and the FDI Team to share ideas and strengthen the program statewide.

Qualifications

Candidate Background

• Experience working with elementary students is preferred. Teachers, coaches, and community educators are especially encouraged to apply.
• Speech and debate experience is a plus but is not required. FDI provides training and materials.

Experience

• Comfortable working with young students and building relationships with schools and families.
• Based in or connected to the assigned region, with knowledge of local schools considered a plus.
• Self-directed and reliable, with the ability to grow the program with minimal oversight.
• Retired or current educators and community leaders are especially encouraged to apply.

Skills & Competencies

• Warm and encouraging communicator, particularly when working with young students.
• Organized and dependable, with the ability to plan and run local events.
• Self-motivated and able to build relationships and grow participation within the region.
• Comfortable using email, video calls, and common online tools.
• Passion for elementary education and the FDI mission.
