Sr Advanced Systems Engineer

Job Description

Join a team that designs, develops, and integrates advanced APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) control systems for Honeywell Aerospace. In this role, you will contribute to the definition, decomposition, validation, and verification of system requirements across the full product lifecycle. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-integrity solutions for gas turbine engine applications.

As a Senior Advanced Systems Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor responsible for requirements-based engineering of APU control system functions and components. You will work hands-on on requirements generation, system architecture support, interface definition, and V&V activities while collaborating closely with technical leads and project engineering.

You will operate across the APU Control Systems organization—part of the Engines & Power Systems business—to support program execution, ensure technical rigor, and help meet customer and business milestones.

You will report directly to our Systems Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ on a hybrid work schedule. Will be required to work on-site full time for the first 90 days

Responsibilities
Engineering
  • Develop, decompose, and manage system and subsystem requirements for APU control systems
  • Support system architecture discussions, functional decomposition, interface definition, and requirements allocation
  • Apply environmental qualification requirements (DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461) to APU control systems, including identifying gaps and contributing to closure strategies such as similarity, analysis, or targeted testing

Requirements-Based Engineering
  • Participate in validation and verification planning, execution, and documentation
  • Generate and review requirements, test plans, test procedures, and V&V evidence
  • Ensure completeness, traceability, and compliance of system requirements across lifecycle phases

Integration & Technical Coordination
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, test, and project engineering teams to ensure alignment between requirements and implementation
  • Support requirement changes, technical issue resolution, and impact assessments

Program Support
  • Provide input to schedules, milestones, and technical risk assessments
  • Deliver high-quality engineering artifacts on time
  • Engage with internal and external customers to clarify requirements, present technical updates, and support design reviews

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency required due to export control restrictions
  • 4–6+ years of relevant systems engineering experience
  • Experience with requirements development, decomposition, validation, and verification for complex aerospace systems
  • Proficiency with IBM DOORS for requirements management and traceability
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461

WE VALUE
  • Strong knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle and requirements management best practices
  • Experience with control systems
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methods
  • Experience with Teamcenter, Simulink, MATLAB, and Bitbucket
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
