Job Description

The Sterile Processing Technician I plays a vital role in ensuring the availability of clean, sterile instruments and medical devices for surgical procedures. Under close supervision, you will gain hands-on experience in decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization processes, contributing to the overall patient care and safety standards at our medical center.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring proper cleaning and disinfection.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and any defects, maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Assemble and wrap instrument sets according to count sheets, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Load and unload sterilizers, maintaining accurate records of the sterilization process.
  • Follow departmental protocols, AAMI, and Joint Commission standards to uphold patient safety and infection control.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Assist in the training and guidance of new team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the sterile processing team to ensure efficient workflow and timely instrument availability.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry standards and best practices in sterile processing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Sterile Processing Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Central Sterile Processing course is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain certification (CRCST or CBSPD) within 12 months of hire.
  • Physical ability to lift 25-50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.
  • Experience in a healthcare, clinical, or regulated environment is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality checks.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to follow strict procedures and protocols.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
