Panel Technician (New Iberia, LA)

Job Description

Position Summary

The Panel Technician is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, wiring, and testing of industrial control panels in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, and industry standards. This role ensures panels are built accurately, safely, and efficiently to meet project specifications and quality requirements.

This position will be based at our New Iberia panel shop working approximately 40-50 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble, layout, and build industrial control panels, junction boxes, and enclosures
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Perform point-to-point wiring, termination, and routing of cables/wiring
  • Install and mount electrical components such as PLCs, HMIs, relays, terminal blocks, circuit breakers, and power supplies
  • Drill, cut, and modify enclosures and back panels as required
  • Ensure proper labeling, wire management, and panel organization to meet quality standards
  • Perform continuity checks, inspections, and basic functional testing
  • Identify and report discrepancies in drawings, materials, or design specifications
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow all safety procedures and electrical safety standards
  • Support material handling, staging, and inventory control related to panel builds
  • Prepare completed panels for inspection, testing, and shipment

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and components
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
  • Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred
  • Technical training or certification in electrical, electronics, or industrial systems
  • Experience in control panel assembly or electrical fabrication
  • Familiarity with industrial control components (PLC systems, instrumentation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of relevant standards such as NEC, UL508A, or similar

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in a shop environment for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity for wiring and component installation

Work Environment
  • Panel fabrication shop setting
  • Exposure to tools, electrical equipment, and moderate noise levels
  • May require overtime or extended hours based on project needs
