The Referral Coordinator
Ensures referral requests are scheduled timely in accordance with established procedures, including patient visits, testing, procedures, and surgeries.
Maintains working knowledge of clinical information systems for scheduling, registration, and reporting functions.
Ensures accurate entry of insurance, demographic, and eligibility information in accordance with established procedures.
Verifies referral and authorization requirements and completes processes within required timeframes.
Provides high levels of customer service to patients, visitors, clinical staff, and team members.
Supports team, practice, or department needs including administrative work, data entry, medical record management, and report completion.
Participates in special projects as assigned by leadership.
Provides directions and assistance to patients and visitors as needed.
Communicates effectively with management, clinical staff, and internal and external customers.
Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information appropriately.
Manages changing priorities and workload interruptions while operating office equipment.
Handles difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
Interacts directly with patients, visitors, staff, vendors, and providers in various settings.
Participates in referral-related training, meetings, and ongoing education.
Serves as a resource for referral-related questions and guidance.
Education: Associate degree required or 2 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Experience: None.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Virginia MLTSS (UAI) Certification required upon completion of orientation and must be maintained throughout employment.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Advanced computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software required. Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
