The Opportunity: Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity as a Construction Monitor with Tetra Tech's team of scientists and engineers. We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Monitor with expertise in management, monitoring, inspection, and documenting of various construction projects including heavy industrial, remedial system construction, commercial, site decontamination and demolition, linear utilities construction, road and highway construction, and construction project management. Position responsibilities include project management, report writing, field inspections, specifications preparation, contractor submittals review and approval, construction plan review, construction progress inspections, and contractor management. The Construction Monitor will manage projects commensurate with their existing training and experience. The successful candidate will execute project from concept through commissioning with a strong emphasis on safety, communication, and operation optimization. This position includes a remote site setting and schedule to be worked out with your supervisor. This position will report to the Tetra Tech San Bernardino office, however, the job will be a 100% remote field job with work located at the Salton Sea. Individuals must be located within 50 miles of the Salton Sea area.

Essential Job Functions: The Construction Monitor will have the opportunity to work on a variety of construction projects including site restoration, water resources, site development, and contaminated site remediation. Market sectors the Construction Monitor will work with may include state and Federal funded watershed resiliency and impact mitigation, environmental cleanup, and industrial projects. The position will include duties such as:
- Site reconnaissance and on-site evaluation of various governmental, commercial and industrial sites.
- Preparation of reports and technical memorandums.
- Development of cost estimates.
- Development of or review of bid specifications and contract documents.
- Construction oversight and management.
- Review of contractor submittals.
- Prepare responses to contractor requests for information (RFI) and design change requests (DCR) and other similar construction management and monitoring documentation.
- Review of construction designs and plans.
- Construction cost tracking and review of contractor invoices.
- Data compilation, review, and evaluation.
- Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: - A high school diploma is required.
- 5+ years of construction management and monitoring work experience.
- Ability to perform and lead field data collection and construction and reclamation oversight on state and Federal lands and facilities, commercial and industrial sites including active mines (approx. 75%-80% of travel required).
- Ability to correctly read and interpret engineer design drawings and as-builts.
- Ability to read and interpret construction specifications
- Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft-based software, including MS Excel and MS Word, for data analysis and report preparation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to summarize scientific data and model outputs in concise, readable language.
- Ability to work outdoors for long hours in a high-heat desert environment is a must
- A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions
Preferred Qualifications: - Training and certification as a construction Stormwater professional as a QSP or QSD preferred, or ability to acquire.
Physical Requirements: - Must be able to traverse large terrain carrying equipment and materials up to 50 lbs over uneven ground, in all weather conditions (high-heat desert environment).
- Ability to work outdoors for long hours in a high-heat desert environment is a must.
- Ability to travel and perform field work (100% field-based position with 75-80% of travel required).
- Must be able to work a job shift starting in the early morning (onsite starting at 5:00am) in order to mitigate ambient heat conditions during summer months.
- Have full range of motion to support field activities.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors: - This position will be a 100% field position operating in the outdoors around the Salton Sea area monitoring construction activities of the projects.
- Field work will include work to be performed outside, as a result will include working in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, noise, etc.). This can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting, and sitting for field activities.
Additional Information: - Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.
- Work will be performed in a field setting.
Target salary range: $40.00 / hour to $45.00 / hour. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
