Position Overview:

The Science Teacher will work with students in Grades 2 through 8, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of discovery in a joyful, hands-on learning environment. This teacher will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom and laboratory setting while delivering developmentally appropriate science instruction. The ideal candidate will differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners and support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. Strong communication with families and collaboration with colleagues are essential, as is flexibility, professionalism, and reliability.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science Education or a related field required

  • Teaching certification (preferred)

  • Prior experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students (3+ years preferred)

  • Strong instructional, classroom management, and organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and partner with families

  • A proactive, flexible, and dependable approach to teaching

  • High energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm for working with children

  • Genuine passion for science education and inquiry-based learning

  • Commitment to upholding the mission and values of Holy Child Academy and participating actively in school life

  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required clearances: PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Fingerprinting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Science Education or a related field

  • Experience in an independent school environment

  • Experience with hands-on, inquiry-based, and project-based science instruction

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate, and challenging science instruction for students in Grades 2–8

  • Foster inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking through hands-on learning experiences

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners and monitor student progress

  • Employ effective classroom management strategies to create a positive, orderly, and productive learning environment

  • Provide a safe and secure classroom and laboratory environment that supports student exploration and learning

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress and classroom activities

  • Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and administration to support student success and interdisciplinary learning

  • Integrate real-world applications and environmental awareness into the science curriculum where appropriate

  • Actively participate in division and faculty meetings, in-service days, and committee work, as needed

  • Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development

  • Support HCA’s advancement efforts by participating in open houses and school events

  • Fulfill other duties as assigned
