SBA Credit Underwriter

Job Description

SUMMARY :

The SBA Underwriter is responsible for the analysis, structuring, and credit approval of SBA 7(a) loan requests, working closely with the Credit Administrator and front-office production team to evaluate deals efficiently and accurately.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
  • Underwrite SBA 7(a) loan requests including analysis of business cash flow, personal financial statements, collateral, and SBA eligibility
  • Prepare written credit analyses and loan approval packages for Credit Administrator and loan committee review
  • Structure loan requests to meet SBA program requirements and internal credit standards
  • Identify and articulate credit risks, collateral shortfalls, and mitigating factors in a clear and thorough manner
  • Work directly with Relationship Managers to gather documentation, resolve underwriting questions, and move deals efficiently through the pipeline
  • Ensure all credit submissions comply with current SBA SOP guidelines and program eligibility requirements
  • Maintain complete and accurate credit files throughout the loan approval and closing process
  • Stay current on SBA regulatory updates and internal policy changes


JOB REQUIREMENTS :
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Prior SBA 7(a) underwriting experience


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED :
  • Advanced proficiency in interpreting GAAP financial statements and translating them to cash flow for credit purposes, including global cash flow and guarantor analysis
  • Intermediate understanding of SBA regulations and policies
  • Intermediate knowledge of SBA SOP, eligibility requirements, and collateral standards

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Standing, walking, bending and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds
  • May be asked to work supplemental hours periodically
  • Limited travel required occasionally during and after business hours
