GENERAL PURPOSE

In a developing capacity and under direct supervision, this role applies standard engineering principles, concepts, and techniques to complete routine assignments in support of business goals. The position works closely with manufacturing, production, purchasing, customer service, sales, and product development teams.
This is primarily a desk-based role requiring strong attention to data accuracy within production systems while supporting manufacturing and other business functions. Daily responsibilities include quoting custom products by analyzing feasibility, determining labor requirements, calculating cost estimates, and developing engineering criteria. The role also performs basic analyses to support design options and recommendations for structures, systems, and components.
The position requires problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a focus on safety, data integrity, and timely project completion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Quote custom products using engineering software and clearly document design changes.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and product data in applicable systems.
  • Translate customer or project requirements into manufacturable product configurations by collaborating with engineering and production teams.
  • Partner with manufacturing and periodically visit the production floor to review designs, answer technical questions, and support implementation.
  • Document and make system updates to improve processes, quality, and product design.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and skills to assigned tasks.
  • Use critical thinking to identify issues and implement solutions independently.
  • Provide guidance on basic engineering tasks to team members.
  • Complete assignments within established timelines under leadership oversight.
  • Follow established engineering processes while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Seek guidance and mentorship from senior engineers while developing technical expertise.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support business objectives

Education/Experience

Engineering/Technical degree from an accredited program or 2-year technical degree in related field OR equivalent engineering work experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with 3D CAD and the ability to translate technical drawings or prototypes into manufacturable products is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and willingness to work with plant personnel.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across production, engineering, and management teams.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage data-intensive work, including BOMs and product structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP and engineering software systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize work and make decisions with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Understanding of how decisions impact overall business performance.
