Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Description

This role ensures suppliers achieve the required quality levels, capacity and timing for new program activities and are also responsible for leading Supplier Advanced Quality Planning and launch support for new programs.

Supervisory Capacity:               Hourly Direct Reports

  • Lead improvement of supplier quality KPIs (products and services) through effective issue resolution, action tracking and escalation. 
  • Support plant in reducing supplier non-conformities (NCNs), cost recovery losses, and managing poor-performing suppliers and quality crises. 
  • Ensure supplier-related risks are effectively identified and managed. 
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of supplier quality processes, standards, and training programs. 
  • Evaluate and audit potential suppliers in line with purchasing and quality strategies. 
  • Drive supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Assist plant in reducing supplier demerits and Cost of Non-Quality (COPQ)
  • Support program management activities during product launch phases. 
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships through effective communication, collaboration, and performance management.
  • Sporadic domestic and / or international travel.

Required Education Level 

Bachelor's Level Degree

Area of Study: Quality Management and Systems or similar. *Equivalent work experience may also be considered for certain positions.

Required Qualifications (Experience Level, Skills, Knowledge)

  • 4+ years of experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer, Quality Engineer, or a related role. 

    - Purchasing Quality, Program Management, or Operations within the automotive industry. 

  • Injection molding, assembly, wrapping, lamination, and bonding processes. 
  • Automotive purchased commodities, including chrome parts, metal parts, injected plastic parts, fasteners, and paint. 
  • Negotiating skills 
  • Automotive global quality and regulatory requirements. 
  • Auditor certification (e.g., VDA 6.3 or IATF standards) are a plus. 
  • Spanish skills are a plus

Preferred Qualifications (Experience Level, Skills, Knowledge)

  • Ability to train others in the SQE requirements.
  • Expert in SQE field.
  • 10 years’ experience in SQE environment.
