Position Title: Data Engineer

Overview
Akumen is seeking a Data Engineer to support development and sustainment of modern data platforms for a federal program. This role is responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines, integration processes, and cloud-based data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and mission operations. The position supports enterprise data movement, transformation, and curation activities across multiple environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and integration.
- Support development of ETL/ELT workflows for data warehouses, data lakes, and analytics platforms.
- Monitor and improve data quality, reliability, and performance across the data ecosystem.
- Support cloud-based deployment, automation, and sustainment of production data systems.
- Collaborate with architects, analysts, and developers to deliver data solutions aligned with mission needs.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data engineering or data integration.
- Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, or Scala.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and big data environments.
- Demonstrated experience with data ingestion, transformation, curation, and pipeline troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related field.
- Experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, and AWS data services.
- Experience supporting analytics, reporting, or machine learning data environments.
- Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and metadata management practices.
- Relevant cloud or data engineering certifications.
Clearance Requirement
Must possess an active Secret security clearance or higher, or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance or higher in accordance with contract requirements.
