B&L has openings for a Construction Inspector (NICET II, III, or IV preferred, but not required) for the 2026 construction season. We are seeking inspection staff for specific transportation projects in the Capital Region of New York. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing all services necessary for the construction inspection of this transportation infrastructure project including working closely with Construction Manager and Design Engineer to ensure the project is completed in accordance with the contract documents.


Responsibilities include:

  • Inspect and document daily construction activities;
  • Prepare daily diary/inspection reports and weekly progress reports;
  • Measure quantities of materials used and work performed;
  • Assist in preparation of monthly payment requests;
  • Assist in the review of claims for extra work and change order costs;
  • Observe and record testing of materials (concrete, soils, asphalt, etc.);
  • Interpret contract plans and specifications; and
  • Take site photographs to document progress and issues.


Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have highway/paving/drainage/site inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of NYSDOT specifications and MURK procedures and protocol is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary to utilize construction software programs.
  • Recent Public Works, NYS Thruway, and NYSDOT retirees are encouraged to apply.


Estimated Pay Range: $45-60/hour.

Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
