Senior Civil Engineer - Water Infrastructure and Reuse

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking to hire a Senior Civil Engineer - Water Infrastructure and Reuse to support our National Resilience Water Planning Practice! This position is located in Chicago, IL.

This role brings experience in advanced water treatment, water reuse, and capital project delivery, with a strong ability to integrate engineering, operations, and construction-phase coordination.

Role accountabilities:
  • Provide national perspective to understand current conditions, emerging client needs, regulatory drivers, technology advancements and other factors influencing the market.
  • Collaborate with global, national and regional leaders to develop and implement strategic plans to grow Arcadis's Resilience Water Planning Practice. This includes current focus areas around the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) / Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI), PFAS, Resource Recovery, and Intelligent/One Water services.
  • Contribute to innovative approaches and lead development of value propositions to accelerate growth of our Resilience Water Planning programs and look at continuous process improvements to enhance Arcadis' offerings to the market and to further meet the needs of our clients.
  • Support planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure, including advanced water recycling facilities, groundwater systems, and distribution networks.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams, supporting coordination with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, engineering reports, and design documentation for water treatment, reuse, and conveyance projects.
  • Provide construction-phase services, including submittal and RFI review, field coordination, and design support to ensure alignment with project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with water quality analysis, process evaluation, and system performance monitoring to support regulatory compliance and operational optimization.
  • Support development of scopes of work, cost estimates, and procurement packages for capital improvements and maintenance programs.
  • Apply hydraulic modeling and data analysis tools (e.g., InfoWater, InfoWorks ICM, EPANET, ArcGIS) to evaluate system performance and inform engineering decisions.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of water quality principles and regulatory compliance requirements, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with clients and regulatory agencies. Experience supporting municipal water utilities is preferred, particularly with exposure to water treatment, water reuse, or groundwater systems. The ideal candidate will also have familiarity with construction-phase services and the ability to coordinate effectively across contractors, consultants, and operations staff to support successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, excellent at building both internal and client relationships.
  • Broad understanding of water resilience principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or in progress.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $112,640-168,960. . Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
