Overview

Adtran is seeking a detail-oriented SMT Set-Up Operator - Assembler II to support our manufacturing operations in Huntsville, AL. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and verifying Surface Mount Technology (SMT) feeder tables, ensuring all materials, components, and documentation are accurate and production-ready.

You'll play a critical role in enabling high-quality, efficient manufacturing of Adtran products by supporting production readiness, maintaining accuracy and traceability, and ensuring adherence to quality and compliance standards.
What You'll Do
  • Prepare and verify SMT setups in alignment with work orders, production schedules, and established procedures
  • Pull and stage SMT set-up kits, including validating stencils, PCBs, and associated documentation
  • Scan, validate, and confirm component reels, ensuring part numbers, quantities, and revisions match bills of material (BOMs)
  • Load and configure component reels on feeder tables with precise placement, orientation, and polarity
  • Record material movement and maintain accurate data in production systems (e.g., AEGIS)
  • Review quality alerts, waivers, and process documentation to ensure compliance prior to release to production
  • Inspect components, materials, and assemblies to ensure compliance with IPC-A-610, Q50, and internal quality standards
  • Identify and escalate defects, discrepancies, or nonconformances
  • Stage completed SMT feeder tables for production readiness
  • Follow standard operating procedures while adapting to evolving production needs and priorities
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and workflow
What You Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of experience in electronic manufacturing, assembly, or warehouse operations preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a high-volume, quality-driven environment
  • Familiarity with component identification, BOM verification, and manufacturing documentation
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office; ERP experience (e.g., BaaN) a plus
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with team members
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative and a team-oriented mindset
Technical & Functional Skills
  • Knowledge of SMT processes and electronic assembly practices
  • Experience with quality standards such as IPC-A-610 preferred
  • Ability to accurately handle and verify small electronic components
  • Strong organizational and data tracking skills
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Lift up to 35 lbs independently; heavier items with assistance
  • Frequent use of hands for precise, small-component handling and assembly
  • Ability to reach, bend, and maneuver in a production environment
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to production equipment and materials
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (e.g., eye protection, respirators)
