The Senior Academic Advisor provides advanced academic advising and operational support for undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). This position coordinates complex student cases, mentors new advisors, and ensures accuracy in degree audits, prerequisite reviews, and graduation processing. This role also leads initiatives to improve advising efficiency and student success outcomes.
Duties: - Advises students on academic requirements, degree progression, and University policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with CSE departments, faculty, and university partners to resolve student, curricular, and system issues.
- Analyzes and processes degree plans, petitions, graduation applications, and other academic processes needed.
- Maintains accurate advising documentation and standardized templates.
- Supports student orientation, outreach, and retention initiatives.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree
- Three years of academic advising experience in a higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree
- Engagement in professional academic advising and professional organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: - Knowledge of various approaches in academic advising.
- Skills in Academic Advising technology.
- Knowledge of effective collaboration methods.
- Ability to assimilate large amounts of information, recall that information, as well as to understand and interpret policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Skills in Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong note-taking skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and handle numerous tasks with frequent interruptions, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong critical thinking and listening skills.
