Nutrition Assistant - Per Diem / Variable

  • Location: Anacortes, WA / Onsite
  • Schedule: Per Diem / Variable
  • Salary Range: $18.79 – $27.92 / per hour

Shift Differentials:

    • Night Differential - $2.25
    • Evening Differential - $1.65
    • Weekend Differential - $1.50

The Nutrition Assistant compiles dietary information for use by kitchen personnel in preparation of meals for hospital patients. This position provides support to the Director of Food Services, Dietitians and the Lead Cook.

What you will be doing:

  • Maintains diet cardex.
  • Demonstrates exceptional telephone skills in taking room service orders from patients.
  • Processes diet orders and writes patient menus based on diet order.
  • Tallies and records department statistics.
  • Must interact in a positive manner with other departments, employees, patients and the public.
  • Tallies, prepares, dishes and serves most cold food and beverages on the patient trays in an accurate and sanitary manner.
  • Prepares patient nourishments and sets patients trays.
  • Prepares and delivers special food orders.
  • Observes and records temperature of refrigerators and freezers.
  • Performs other kitchen work routinely or as assigned.
  • Completes general cleaning.
  • Completes prep work required to efficiently run tray line.
  • Possesses knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement principles and supports the hospital's philosophy of performance improvement.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients and visitors.

What you will bring to the role:

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Current Food and Beverage Worker's Permit required.
  • A minimum of (1) year of experience in institutional food service preferred.
  • Ability to work closely with other employees under changing conditions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each employee’s and patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
