As a Senior Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer - Materials Engineering - Chemical Process here at Honeywell, you will provide support for new and existing products including aerospace gas turbine engines used for propulsion and auxiliary power.
Primary responsibilities include Materials Engineering design and applications support on technology implementation including but not limited to chemical processes, coatings, surface enhancement, process automatization focused on special process applications for aerospace, and leading and mentoring other engineers for materials and processes involved in the design and manufacture of parts. This role will support cross-site global special process task groups for Materials Engineering, Chemical Process development, and design qualification for aerospace applications.
You will report directly to our Senior Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITES- Specification maintenance, process documentation, and Root Cause and Corrective Action associated with process escapes
- Identification of producibility/cost reduction opportunities and Aerospace and materials testing industry representation.
- Supply chain technical support, development and approval in accordance with Honeywell requirements and standards.
Technical skills include a broad understanding of materials, processing, and applications, understanding of mechanical and design requirements for aerospace components, effective communication and participation on teams with considerable focus on emerging technologies manufacturing and design. The main customers of this position are the Honeywell engineering and manufacturing units and Supply Chain personnel (Sourcing) as well as the supplier base.
Qualifications YOU MUST HAVE- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
- 5+ years experience in materials/process engineering
- 5+ years experience in chemical processing, plating, and/or other Special Processes
WE VALUE- Significant experience in the Aerospace industry and familiarity with chemical processes, coatings, surface enhancement, and other Aerospace Special Processes
- Familiarity with aerospace materials and processing specifications
- Familiarity with Nadcap and industry standards, requirements and approvals
- Capable of assessing new suppliers and determining their strengths and weaknesses
- Experience troubleshooting chemical processing issues, and providing technical solutions for rapid problem solving
- Ability to liaison work between Honeywell Aerospace suppliers and Honeywell Engineering, Quality, Supplier Development Engineers ( SDE) , and Integrated Supply Chain (ISC).
- Ability to work with Design Engineering to develop and improve new and existing designs
- Understanding engineering drawings and requirements
- Knowledge of aerospace design practices
- Experience in Six Sigma, Lean and other process improvement tool
