Job Summary:
The Buyer coordinates the procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies for the organization. This role manages supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, ensures timely delivery, and supports organizational goals by balancing cost, quality, and schedule requirements.
Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate all activities related to procurement of commodities, from purchase intent through delivery.
  • Analyze requirements of commodities, including specifications, preferred suppliers, and delivery timelines.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier proposals to ensure compliance with company needs.
  • Investigate and/or interview potential suppliers to confirm they meet specified requirements.
  • Recommend appropriate suppliers to management or team members.
  • Negotiate cost, quality, and schedule to achieve optimal results.
  • Implement purchase contracts in compliance with company and government regulations.
  • Ensure commodities are delivered on schedule, at negotiated pricing, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate cost-effective distribution of commodities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze supplier proposals and negotiate favorable terms.
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes, procurement systems, and supplier management practices.
  • Familiarity with government procurement requirements (desired but not required).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and procurement software.
  • Basic knowledge of contract administration and compliance.
Education:
  • Associate degree (A.A.) in Business, Supply Chain, or a related manufacturing program from a two-year college; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related purchasing or procurement experience
Background Prerequisites:
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with government procurement processes.
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management).
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, and reach with arms.

Repetitiveness: Low; tasks may involve computer use and administrative work.
Work Environment: Office environment with occasional supplier or manufacturing site visits.
Hazards/PPE: Minimal hazards; standard PPE may be required during supplier or plant visits.
