JOB DESCRIPTION

BHE GT&S has an exciting career opportunity for an Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Sr LNG Technician (Electrical) located at our Cove Point facility in Lusby, MD.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Senior LNG Technician (Electrical) reports directly to the Supervisor-LNG Operations (Electrical) and is a member of multi-disciplined team responsible for the safe, compliant and reliable operation and maintenance of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import/export and re-gasification terminal Electrical System Equipment including LNG process systems infrastructure, emergency response systems, power/steam generation rotating machinery and auxiliary control support systems.

The Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Senior LNG Technician (Electrical) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading complex electrical control and power distribution system and associated equipment including but not limited to medium-voltage and low-voltage class motors, generators, transformers, transformers, switchgears, motor-control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), variable speed drives (VSDs) and related components that are typically found in large-scale industrial environments such as LNG terminals, power generation facilities, chemical and petrochemical plants, manufacturing operations, NGL processing facilities, cryogenic natural gas processing plants, and other hydrocarbon facilities.

The Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Senior LNG Technician (Electrical) is a multi-level posted position. The successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate skill level based on their demonstrated competencies, qualifications, and relevant experience.

The successful candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment and will be responsible for the reliability of the facility's electrical systems and electrical equipment while ensuring the facility operates in full compliance with site, company, local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and procedures while also supporting continuous improvement, reliability initiatives, and cross-functional coordination. A strong commitment to safety and adherence to established protocols is essential to maintain the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the terminal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform all activities with emphasis on a proactive and preventative maintenance approach based on industry's best practices, manufacturer recommendations, and regulatory requirements to include but not limited to: FERC, PHMSA, NFPA, USCG, MDOL, MDE and EPA.
  • Recognizes the safety, environmental and facility reliability consequences of actions taken maintaining the highest levels of safety and environmental compliance.
  • Follow and enforce all site Electrical Safe Work Practices to ensure safe, compliant execution of electrical work.
  • Work closely with and directly support the facility's operations teams, providing electrical system technical expertise to ensure the plant electrical systems meet operational needs.
  • Respond to facility electrical related issues affecting facility operations, assisting with start-ups, shutdowns, and abnormal operating conditions, and implementing improvements that enhance operational reliability and performance.
  • Perform hands-on field work on complex electrical systems and equipment, including troubleshooting and repairing system issues, performing detailed diagnostics, and replacing or upgrading components as required.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, dielectric testers, circuit breaker and protective relay test equipment, and computer/microprocessorbased control hardware/firmware.
  • Perform testing of cables, bus systems, generators, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), protective and network relays, motors, heaters, transformers, lighting systems, HVAC equipment, DC systems, and navigational aid systems.
  • Read, interpret, and maintain electrical system drawings and configurationcontrol documentation to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance with site standards.
  • Working with site's Electrical Engineer, submit drawing and configuration changes per the site's modification and Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Support installation, testing, and startup of new electrical equipment.
  • Attends required onsite and offsite training and proactively completes assigned selfstudy and qualification programs to maintain all technical and safety certifications.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (Maximo and Oracle) to manage assets, work orders, inventory, and scheduling to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and streamline maintenance operations with a proactive approach.
  • Obtain a solid understanding of all plant Electrical Systems and Electrical Equipment associated with LNG Liquefaction, LNG Regasification, Ship Loading and Power Generation processes.
  • May assist in the development, implementation, and execution of electrical policies and procedures.
  • May be required to on-call and/or work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Preferred: Electrical craft, lead or supervisor experience or journeyman level or higher operations experience in LNG production/processing, power generation or petrochemical industries. Completion of a formal electrical craft training program is a plus. SEL Protective Relay experience. GE Vernova VSDS experience is a plus. Startup/Commissioning experience is a plus. Maximo and Oracle experience is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate LNG Technician (Electrical)

0-3 years' experience in an industrial setting in process/product chemical engineering or operations, depending on type of experience

LNG Technician (Electrical)

Three (3) years' experience in an industrial setting in process/product chemical engineering or operations, depending on type of experience
  • Responsible for assisting more experienced technicians in the performance of corrective and preventive maintenance inspections using digital multimeters oscilloscopes dielectric circuit breaker and protective relay test equipment computer microprocessor-based controls firm/hardware.
  • Assisting more experienced technicians in performance of testing of cable/bus generators switchgear motor control centers protective and network relaying motors heaters transformers Lighting HVAC DC and Navigational aid systems etc.
  • Recording and trending data as required.
  • Maintaining drawings and configuration control documentation as related to the electrical system.
  • Monitoring the loading/unloading of LNG ships.
  • Attending scheduled onsite/off-site training courses.
  • Training on environmental and industrial safety operations and security procedures.
  • Aggressively pursues assigned self-study training and qualification program(s).
  • Conservatively operates and maintains the facility to recognize the safety and environmental consequences of actions taken.
  • Achieves the highest levels of environmental and industrial safety compliance.
  • May perform the duties of an Associate LNG technician in a rotational shift environment including holidays weekends and nights.
  • Performs all duties applying safety protocols and adhering to regulatory mandates.

Sr LNG Technician (Electrical)

Five (5) years' experience in an industrial setting in process/product chemical engineering or operations, depending on type of experience
  • Understands the Plant Electrical Power Generation and Distribution system, and adheres to safety protocols
  • Understands all plant utilities, including Instrument air, Domestic and Fire water systems, Sanitation/Wastewater, Power and Emergency Generation, Supports the import/export (loading/unloading) of LNG vessels
  • Applied knowledge, skill and comprehension of Electrical and Controls such as Medium and Low-Voltage generators, motors, switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, protective and network relaying, fuses, cabling, power, current and instrument transformers, Lighting, HVAC, DC and Navigational aid systems etc.
  • Familiar with the most current requirements of NFPA 70 - National Electric Code, NFPA 70E # Electrical Safety in the Workplace and applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations etc.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety requirements for working in proximity of machinery and equipment capable of severe electrical shock and arc-flash
  • Previous work experience demonstrating technical knowledge of industrial electrical systems
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Ability to perform field equipment calibrations
  • Ability to provide guidance and/or training to less experienced Electrical Technicians and Operators
  • Basic computer skills with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral and written communication skills, technical writing skills, electrical skills, and mathematical skills
  • Fully capable to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems to the sub-component level
  • Fully capable to conduct site inspections or walk downs, including working at heights
  • Fully capable to maintain drawings and configuration control documentation as related to the industrial electrical system(s)

Recent experience with LNG is preferred; however, petrochemical NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, industrial power plant or hydrocarbon processing experience may be acceptable.

Education
Associate (Typically two years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)

Electrical, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Electrical Construction, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Technology
