Responsibilities

While RS&H was founded in 1941, we have been providing construction management services as one of our primary business practices since 1984.  RS&H’s Transportation-Construction Management Practice serves numerous state departments of transportation, mobility/transportation authorities, turnpike/toll authorities, rail/port authorities, municipal/county governments, and private clients throughout the United States. Our Construction Engineering and Inspections (CEI) teams as well as our Construction Management teams are industry leading experts who provide a full range of construction engineering, program management, specialized testing, and inspection services from the preconstruction phase through maintenance and operations.  By joining our team, you too can provide unique expertise in the full life cycle of transportation delivery, and lead the evolution of transportation.



Qualifications



RS&H is currently seeking an experienced Sr. Project Engineer II to join our Transportation Construction Management team in Tyler, TX.

 

This position will work outside on active TxDOT construction projects and is ideal for a professional who wants to be deeply embedded in project delivery. The Tyler market is primarily TxDOT-driven, and this role requires hands-on experience with TxDOT standards, processes, and stakeholders.

As part of the construction management team, you’ll serve an integral role in the firm by acting as an owner’s representative for inspection and contract administration during the construction of large-scale transportation projects. This position will be directly involved in project execution, contractor coordination, and client management.

What you will do:

As part of the RS&H team, you will:

  • Serve as Owner’s Representative on TxDOT projects

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, claims, and contractor correspondence

  • Participate in contractor meetings, monthly client coordination meetings, and project reviews

  • Review schedules, pay applications, and project documentation

  • Verify construction activities comply with contract documents and TxDOT standards

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to inspection staff

  • Support client relationships and future business development efforts

  • Participate in marketing and development of new contract opportunities

  • Help develop and refine policies, methods, practices, and procedures

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program and 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Be a Professional Engineer (PE) in good standing

  • Have TxDOT experience (consultant, contractor, or public sector)

  • Have experience in construction of major road or bridge structures

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills

  • Have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and key stakeholders

  • Have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on the highway and on construction sites

  • Have a passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements
