Summary: 

The Senior Archaeologist position leads Epsilon’s archaeological pursuits and projects for the Cultural Resources Program. Responsibilities include client and project management, proposal preparation and submission, agency consultation, and preparation of archaeological reports. Extensive knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act and Southwest regional experience in all phases of archaeological fieldwork is paramount. The ideal candidate must also demonstrate exceptional communication, organization, and leadership skills. The Senior Archaeologist directly reports to the Director of Environmental Compliance Services and Cultural Resources Program Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify new project opportunities and support business development efforts through client engagement and proposal participation.

  • Lead complex archaeological investigations.

  • Lead client communications and coordinate project activities, ensuring smooth execution, issue resolution, and high‑quality outcomes.

  • Develop and coordinate proposal documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission to support business development efforts.

  • Provide agency consultation and prepare comprehensive archaeological reports in accordance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.

  • Excel at working both independently and in a dynamic team-oriented environment.

  • Drive to project and work sites to conduct fieldwork, inspections, and on‑site evaluations as required.

  • Oversee all planning and preparation for archaeological surveys, site recordings, excavations, monitoring, and any other applicable fieldwork.

  • Collaborate with archaeological staff for permit compliance and other agency/regulatory stipulations.

  • Support Principal Investigators with preparation of archaeological reports, research designs, treatment plans, artifact analyses, and other technical requirements.

  • Perform quality assurance/quality control protocols to ensure delivery of high-quality technical documents.

  • Manage and supervise archaeological staff members for investigations throughout the Southwest.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in archaeology or anthropology.

  • 10 years of supervisory archaeological experience in the Southwest, with at least 5 years in New Mexico.

  • Extensive knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and proven Southwest regional experience across all phases of archaeological fieldwork.

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Strong technical writing, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Clean driving record and be insurable to operate company vehicles

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software suites.

  • Applicant must be able to pass a background check for access to U.S. Military installations.

  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in extreme terrain and environmental conditions, if required.

 

ADA Notations:

  • The position requires a mixture of both sedentary office/laboratory work and fieldwork performed outdoors, sometimes in remote areas.

  • Frequently required to sit for long periods of time. Also, stand, walk, and may occasionally lift and move at least 25 pounds.

  • Must be able to walk up to 8-12 miles daily with field pack and ample water, over rough terrain in variable weather conditions, which may include high temperatures in summer months, if required.

  • Regular communication (hearing/speaking/typing).

  • Prolonged use of computer (typing/keyboarding/virtual video and audio meetings).

  • Noise conditions in office/laboratory setting range from very quiet to some noise.

  • Ability to travel by car, truck, air, or other means of transportation, if required.

  • Must be able to drive in remote areas, if required.
