A well-established health organization is seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to serve as Psychiatrist and Medical Director for their inpatient program. *Position Overview*
The Psychiatrist & Medical Director is responsible for comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients while providing clinical leadership across all medical and psychiatric services. This role partners closely with executive leadership, nursing, and clinical teams to support patient outcomes, staff development, and continuous quality improvement.
*Key Clinical Responsibilities*
· Conduct psychiatric evaluations for new admissions
· Provide daily patient rounds and medication management
· Interpret diagnostic data and integrate findings into individualized treatment plans
· Respond to psychiatric emergencies and oversee restraint/seclusion evaluations
· Ensure treatment plans meet all clinical, regulatory, and accreditation standards
· Complete timely, accurate documentation in accordance with CMS, state, and accreditation requirements
· Participate in family meetings, care coordination, and discharge planning
*Medical Director Responsibilities*
· Leadership & Administrative Oversight
· Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, and nursing leadership
· Oversee medical staffing, scheduling, and provider recruitment
· Participate in executive and interdisciplinary leadership meetings
· Collaborate with Nursing, Clinical Services, Utilization Review, Quality, and Risk teams
· Quality Improvement & Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and state regulatory standards
· Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities
· Monitor psychotropic medication utilization, PRN usage, and clinical documentation trends
· Conduct regular chart audits and implement corrective action plans as needed
*Professional Expectations*
· Maintain active medical licensure and required CME
· Model trauma-informed, patient-centered care
· Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and leadership
· Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and ethical standards
*Qualifications*
· MD or DO with Board Certification in Psychiatry
· Active state medical license in good standing (or eligibility)
· Prior inpatient and/or residential treatment experience preferred
· Demonstrated clinical leadership or medical director experience preferred
· Strong working knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission, and state regulatory standards
