We are currently seeking a Senior Energy Solutions Development Engineer based in New Jersey (flex/remote worker) to support SBT project development throughout North America. In this capacity you will engage primarily in central plant design and optimization projects across our Public, Federal, and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) markets to provide engineering support for our sales team. In addition, you will: use your extensive subject matter expertise to influence customers toward Honeywell solutions; provide both external and internal consultations; help Honeywell teams develop and maintain the right product messaging, customer support, and training; foster cross-functional alignment to customer needs; and participate in pursuit strategy planning, and customer negotiations.

Areas of job responsibility and associated skills:

  • Perform Technical Audits and Solution Development - Ability to develop an Investment Grade Audit (IGA) of central plants and associated facilities. Provide a unique customer focused solution that meets the customer's technical, social, and financial requirements. Perform a financial analysis to demonstrate the viability of the technical solution. Must have demonstrated ability for speed and quality of technical solutions. Actively manage scope, schedule, and cost of development.


  • Technical Knowledge and Aptitude - Must have experience with the design, equipment selection, operation, and optimization of central heating/cooling plants and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) systems - including but not limited to steam and hot water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, deaerators, heat exchangers, steam and hot water distribution networks, steam turbines, gas turbines, etc.). Capable of performing detailed analysis/modeling of plant performance data to identify efficiency improvements and cost-savings opportunities (optimization of equipment sequencing, operating strategies, etc.). Experience performing both heat balance and hydraulic analyses. Proven ability to design sequences of operation for central heating (both steam and hot water), cooling plants and CHP systems. The capability to develop new and unique combinations of offerings to meet the customer's needs around sustainability, resiliency, decarbonization, and emission-reduction initiatives.


  • Communication and Proficiency with Sales - Ability to effectively communicate at all organizational levels to achieve sales goals. Ability to present complex technical ideas and concepts to non-technical audiences. High level of written communication skills to generate reports, presentations and proposals as required. Ability to understand the customer's organizational culture, buying tendencies, and critical stakeholders. Experience coordinating with facilities teams, engineers, contractors, and vendors.


  • Solution Development Process Adherence - Ability to work with a diverse team and capacity to adopt best practices and process enhancements. Ability to independently complete contract documents in accordance with standard Honeywell practices. Coordinate with internal teams such as Measurement and Verification, Operations, and Contracts teams. Proficiency at generating financial analysis and scopes of work. Ability to reuse and adapt pre-established best practices.


  • Support Delivery Operations - Support Operational personnel with post contract engineering, design document development, and project commissioning to drive faster project completion. Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and system inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.


An estimated 30% travel will be required.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Generate conceptual schematic design of concepts for preliminary cost estimating
  • Familiarity with energy metering, performance trending, and data analysis
  • Calculate annual energy consumption of central heating/cooling plants and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plants
  • Develop detailed saving calculations for proposed solutions
  • Generate 30-year life cycle cost analysis of new plants or modified plants including: financing, site growth rate, utility rate escalations, carbon offsets, equipment uptime, degradation, renewable energy credits, O&M costs, and incentives
  • Create comprehensive scope of work documents for use internally and externally
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for performance issues related to systems within central heating/cooling plants and CHP systems
  • Experience with air permitting and other environmental regulatory requirements
  • Engage in customer-facing activities and present technical briefings
  • Analyze growth opportunities
  • Review proposal activities
  • Develop and champion best-in-class sales training
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to younger or less experienced engineers


Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10 years or more experience with central heating/cooling plants and CHP systems
  • Hands on experience with boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hydronic/steam systems, etc.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Knowledgeable of ASME, NFPA, UFC, and international mechanical codes

WE VALUE
  • Project Development experience: $1M - $20M project size
  • Professional certifications: CEM, LEED-AP
  • Preferably experience with steam and/or gas turbine generation and thermal energy storage
  • Experience with traditional building HVAC and control systems
  • Ability to develop and foster strong customer relationships
  • Strong verbal/written communications skills (technical writing, proposal preparation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with industry regulatory requirements and future mandates
  • Familiarity with energy and carbon reduction project grants and incentive programs
  • Ability to achieve results through influence in a matrixed-team environment

NEW JERSEY PAY TRANSPARENCY

The annual base salary range for this position is $139,000 - $174,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.

REMOTE PAY TRANSPARENCY

The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Connecticut, and Hawaii is $139,000 - $174,000. For Washington, and most major metropolitan areas in New York & California, the annual base salary range is $160,000 - $200,000.
