Sr. Leave and Benefits Specialist (US)

Position Overview

This role manages the end-to-end administration of U.S. leave, accommodation, and disability programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position serves as a subject matter expert for complex leave and accommodation cases, partners closely with internal teams and external vendors, supports broader U.S. benefits delivery and annual enrollment, and drives process improvements to ensure accurate, consistent, and high-quality program execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for end-to-end administration of the US leave programs (FMLA, ADA, disability, state/local laws) ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and provide guidance to employees and management on leave policies and procedures, including complex and sensitive leaves
  • Manage accommodation requests and workers' compensation claims
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommends process improvements
  • Collaborate with external vendors, within the Benefits team, and across Yahoo (e.g., HRBP's, Payroll, Legal, Communications, People Technology, Finance, Procurement, etc.) to ensure delivery of best-in-class benefits offerings, customer service, and adherence with established plans and agreed-upon service levels
  • Support the US Sr. Manager with the ongoing delivery and compliance of US benefits, including health (medical, dental, vision), welfare (life/AD&D, disability), retirement, leave administration, saving/spending accounts, and voluntary programs/perks
  • Assist with implementation, employee communications, and rollout of plan enhancements and/or changes driven by strategy or in response to regulatory changes
  • Support US annual enrollment processes, including enrollment portal readiness and testing, ensuring carrier accuracy of benefits, and developing communication materials
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and stakeholders by maintaining confidentiality and responding to sensitive inquiries in an accurate, timely, and consistent manner while showing professionalism, sound judgement, and empathy


Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience managing U.S. leave programs end to end (FMLA, ADA, disability, and applicable state/local leave laws) with a strong focus on compliance
  • Subject matter expertise in handling complex, sensitive leave and accommodation cases with sound judgment and empathy
  • Experience partnering with external vendors and navigating escalations, service issues, and process improvements
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with HRBPs, Payroll, Legal, HR Tech, and other stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of broader U.S. benefits programs (health, welfare, retirement, leave, spending accounts), with the ability to support annual enrollment and plan changes
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, operate in ambiguity, and drive continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills, with a high degree of discretion and professionalism

The compensation for this position ranges from $72,750.00 - $151,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
